I think with the Durant signing, the front office and coaching staff clearly sees Wilbur as a backup to Ware rather then a Sam linebacker. They think he would be better at end

I don't understand the signing in the first place. We don't really have the money for it, and you have 2 guys already from last year that played well in Albright and Ernie Sims. From the reports i've read though, he's very good against the run and not so much against the pass.

I agree with this assessment. As it stands...

Ware -- Rat -- Hatcher -- Spencer
Wilbur -- Liss/Bass -- Crawford/Price -- Crawford

Carter -- Lee -- Durant
Albright -- Mcshurdy -- Sims

Something like that at least.

From "reports," I assume you mean random babbling from forums. Because that's the only place I've found such garbage.

Durant was a fantastic pickup, period.

I would be content with this. If we get Spencer signed to a long term contract we can turn our attention in the draft to either FS or OG in the 1st and then BPA from there on.

right now, it seems like:

carter --- lee --- durant

ware -- ratliff -- hatcher -- spencer

and back-ups:

albright --- sims --- wilber

bass -- lissemore -- calloway -- crawford

...with the team hoping wilber can earn the starting spot.

I thought the word on Wilbur was that he wasn't much of an edge rusher? If true, I don't see a move to DE being very beneficial for him or the team.

You see him as an OLB?

FS, OG, or DT in the 1st. Basically BPA in the 1st.

Part of the reason they drafted him to play OLB in a 3-4 was because they thought he could be an edge rusher. Now some fans my not because he didn't have big sack numbers in college but there are plenty of guys like that, some of it's because they face so many running teams that don't throw a lot.

Nah.. though there is plenty of random babbling going on from you no doubt, there are people who actually watch film and give scouting reports on alot of different players.

Considering the guy was a 2 down player who was pulled often on third downs while with the Lions, i think its a pretty safe bet that what i read about the guy was correct.

Good against the run, not the greatest in pass coverage. Thanks for your contribution though.

Assuming Sims doesn't win a starting job, he's more of a WLB and Albright is more of a SLB. Also, Caleb McSurdy.. not McShurdy, is his name. I like him or Lemon to make the team though.

They let their rights to Lemon go.

I thought he was just a FA this year? Could be wrong.. i always liked the way the guy played when he got oppertunities though.

perhaps, but sims played in the middle, while albright played in ware's spot. wouldn't that continue?

I see him as another wasted draft pick, as the rest of the draft after Claiborne looks.

  1. We haven't heard contract particulars but these have to be low risk signings because we didn't have much cap room to play with.
  2. The org is trying to build some depth on the roster so that we players compete for starting jobs and we can go BPA in the draft.
  3. We need enough depth to survive injuries - see 2012. See Sims concussions, Wilburs broken fingers, etc.

Care to link to these "reports?" I'll wait.
