I see more comments about Wilcox not playing well this week against the Saints, but I've reviewed the All-22 and I don't see many issues.

Can people point out successful plays by the Saints where Wilcox was at fault? I would really like to know which ones people are blaming on him, especially in the 1st half.

I think that people may be confusing the requirements of the deep Safety in this scheme with problems with how Wilcox is playing it. It's well known that this is a conservative defensive scheme. Wilcox is the deep Safety and last line of defense on most plays. The defense is designed with the idea that they will give up yardage, but their top goal is to limit big plays and scoring.

I assume that anybody criticizing the deep Safety is watching the All-22, because I don't know how you would really evaluate the deep Safety from the broadcast game footage.

It would be good to hear from @LatinMind and @JakeCamp12 and others on this issue.

No, xwalker, I assume that people criticizing the deep safety play are NOT watching the All-22 and are only watching broadcast footage, because after watching four weeks of All-22 there's no way you could come away thinking we need to replace Wilcox.

I saw one play on a big gainer by the saints where it looked as if Wilcox took a poor angle on the play outside of that did not see many poor plays on his part. It is football vs very talented players and all will lose a battle with in a game. Not saying Wilcox is where I would like him to be developmental wise but I think he is making improvement

He's a 2nd year player. He will develop more as time goes on.

He's more naturally athletic and gifted than Barry Church was at the same juncture, and people wanted to cut Barry Church before he became a stalwart and starter. Wilcox is only going to get better with time.

Do you know which quarter that was in?

That is what I'm counting on. Hesitation kills in this league but the more experience he gains the quicker he is able to make his reads and react to what he is seeing. When you do that you start playing quicker and get into position to make plays

I'm thinking it was the 3rd qrt don't hold me to it but looked as if Wilcox just took a poor angle trying to get to the receiver

I have him down for a bad angle on the play at 11:20 remaining in the 4th quarter. It was one of those plays where the receiver that he's not covering manages to get in his way to some extent, but he still could have taken a better angle.

What is the All-22 and where can I find it?

I think we are talking same play. Outside of that I think he did a good job.

That would be awesome if someone could post the all-22 here, or at least some snippets. Especially for those whose wives complain that their husbands watch too much football. If my wife caught me watching the All-22 at home I think she would throw something at me especially after I watched a lot of college football on Sat and then a lot of football on Sun and then Monday's game and Thursday's game.:)

Just like that one pass over carr, yes he bit a little on the double move but it was a really nice catch that either the saint was coming down with or no one was. Carr is not a 6'4" player and that is the only way he has a chance on that play.

I'm in agreement with you here @xwalker. Steve Dennis and I believe Rowan believe that Wilcox may soon be replaced by Hamilton or Heath and I'm confused by it. From the tape I watched, he's doing exactly what a Tampa-2 safety is asked to do. He still a very inexperienced player. He's only started 9 games at safety in the NFL and only a handful in college. I'm willing to be patient here.

I think the nature of how a safety plays in this scheme lends itself to him being a step behind, so it looks like he's getting beat. It's a reactionary position, rather than an attacking one. That might not necessarily fit what Wilcox does well, but it's going to make it look like he's playing worse than he actually is. I think he's more than fine, especially considering his lack of experience. It's not like teams are torching us down the seams...which suggests he's playing well.

Actually, I think it's a lot like what happened to Donte Whitner in Buffalo. Bills fans jumped all over him during his last year there b/c he'd be the guy chasing some dude into the end zone, and they just assumed it was his coverage. In reality, he was playing pretty well, and he looked much better once he got on a competent defense in SF.

I wouldn't expect much feedback. Any mantra around here seems to grow roots regardless of facts, like this ridiculous idea that Crawford looked so much better at DT than he did at DE. Total fabrication!

:starspin:He's playing well IMO and if He really isn't well he'll have Jakar right behind him and word out of Camp was don't be surprised if Hamilton gets the job as he was making plays.

You have to understand where you are at.

People will say anything that "is in" at the moment.

Now that MO is gone. He is second in line

Crawford looked great and extremely disruptive at DT. That "fact" is not a fabrication.
