Will Bledsoe make the Hall of Fame?

I love Drew Bledsoe, but his legacy is basically being the guy who gives way to THE guy. Granted Moon is in, but there's alot more to that. The HOF is for the best of the best of the best (unless you're a Steeler, then they'll settle for pretty good), and Bledsoe has only qualified as such for a small portion of his years in the league.

He just came on ten years too late. He could have been a force.

Marino, Manning, and Moon all had more impact on the game than Bledsoe has. Defenses had to adjust to them. OLs have to adjust to the defenses just to keep Bledsoe upright.

Great arm, nice stats, very little impact except on his own team's blocking schemes.

though they played different positions I think Bob Hayes would be a good example...

Bob had fantastic numbers...

Bob had a significant impact on the game...

but it was believed (falsely) that Bob disappeared in big games...(see ice bowl)...

that hurt his chances more than anything..(plus the off field issues)

So ........

now when you look at Pearson

his numbers weren't all that great...

no lasting impact on the game...

but he was as clutch a player as you can get...

so they penalize Pearson for not having the numbers/impact.. and then they penalize Bob for not being Clutch...

well now lets look at Bledsoe

some of his numbers are very good (yardage)...... some are very bad(completion percentage, qbr, sacks, ints)

no impact on the game

and lastly was not clutch or atleast not often enough and in some games it could be said he choked...

I just don't see how honestly he could get in..

when there are so very many more deserving

Championships are what this game is about, not stats. This isn't baseball.

I agree. I think getting a ring helps but there are many in the HOF who do not have rings. I think Drew will be hard pressed to make it but you never know how sports writers feel

A vast majority of football coaches, GMs and players would easily choose to play along with Marino, Moon and Fouts in their prime over Bledsoe.

It isn't just about Superbowl rings, but winning the big won can have an impact. Those other three guys did more for their teams than Bledsoe did for his. Bledsoe didn't suck, but he was just at a lower level than those three guys. And those three guys were slightly lower than others that are in the HOF. Bledsoe is in the Hall of Very Good.

The thing you need to realize about Moon is that his time in Canada counts too. It's the Pro Football Hall of Fame, not the NFL Hall of Fame.

Don't you knuckleheads that compare Fouts to Bledsoe have ANY understanding of the history of the game?

The NFL of the bulk of the 1970's (of which Fouts played several seasons) was so biases towards pass defense compared to today that comparing Fouts numbers to Bedsore's numbers is ludicrous.

If Fouts played his entire career AFTER 1978 then his numbers would blow Bledsoe's out of the water. And as it stands now Fouts is STILL better.

Bledsoe is a known loser who lost his Job 3 times to guys who never took a snap... compare that stat to any HOF QB!!!

I wouldn't put too much stock on this point. The first time he lost his job, he lost it to the best or second best QB playing today (I'd rather not get into a Brady vs. Manning argument). He lost his job the second time, because the Bills coaching staff and front office are inept. I know many here don't like Bledsoe, but he never should have lost his job to JP Losman. Losman simply sucks. In Dallas, I think the game is finally passing him by and he lost his job to (hopefully) a very good QB.

Really? Do you even know Montana's numbers? They're MINDBOGGLING they're so good...He's got over 40, 000 yards passing and 273 TD's.

Montana also threw only 139 INTs compared to Drew's 206 INTs.

He completed 63.2% of his passes while Drew completed 57.2%.

Montana had a career QB rating of 92.3 while Bledsoe had a 77.

Montana's playoff rating is even better at 95.7 while Drew's is worse at 54.9.

OUCH! 54.9 playoff ratings. Twice as many INTs than TDs in the playoffs. Sounds real clutch and big time to me.

Yeah, and you don't even need to get into rushing totals and rushing TDs.

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!

The Bills KNEW they were likely going to go backwards by starting Losman. They weren't inept or delusional. They had their fill of Bledsoe and watched him completely botch their opportunity to go to the playoffs in 2004 by coming up completely small vs. a Pittsburgh team that was playing 2nd and 3rd stringers.

Even today the Bills brain trust would not take Bledsoe back.

IF is a word I hear a lot with Bledsoe when the Hall of Fame is brought up. If he wins a Superbowl. If he gets to 50,000 yards.

When Fouts was winding up his career, people knew he was a Hall of Famer. It was a given. Same with Marino. Same with Elway. Same with Favre today. It was a formality that they have to retire and wait 5 years to get in. With Bledsoe one has to argue the point and pull out different stats and hope he can put in a few more seasons. That tells me he is not Hall of Fame material. If he was of that caliber, it would be clear at this point in his career.
