The Bills KNEW they were likely going to go backwards by starting Losman. They weren't inept or delusional. They had their fill of Bledsoe and watched him completely botch their opportunity to go to the playoffs in 2004 by coming up completely small vs. a Pittsburgh team that was playing 2nd and 3rd stringers.

Even today the Bills brain trust would not take Bledsoe back.

Have you seen the Bills play recently, looked at their trades, or looked at their draft picks? The organization is inept. By watching Losman, do you really believe that he would have beaten Pittsburgh? The team is inept. If they weren't playing in such a pathetic division, their record would be even worse than it is now. The team continues to play Losman even though he is one of the worst starting QB's in the league.

IF is a word I hear a lot with Bledsoe when the Hall of Fame is brought up. If he wins a Superbowl. If he gets to 50,000 yards.

When Fouts was winding up his career, people knew he was a Hall of Famer. It was a given. Same with Marino. Same with Elway. Same with Favre today. It was a formality that they have to retire and wait 5 years to get in. With Bledsoe one has to argue the point and pull out different stats and hope he can put in a few more seasons. That tells me he is not Hall of Fame material. If he was of that caliber, it would be clear at this point in his career.

Same with Manning. You already know it. Just like you say.

Most of the posters on this thread are being pretty ridiculous.

To suggest that Bledsoe is a clear HOFer is ridiculous.

To claim he clearly isn't worthy of consideration is equally ridiculous.

The fact is that Bledsoe had career numbers that put him in contention, and it's plain idiotic to suggest otherwise.

But at the same time he doesn't have the post season success and despite some big numbers he has never been regarded as on the same level as the top QB's of his era (Marino, Elway, Favre, Aikman and others).

And while losing his job in NE wasn't his fault, and the decision to go with Loseman in Buffalo was a bad one, the perception of the press - the HOF voters - is vital to getting in, and especially considering his troubles at the end of his career the perception of the voters may not be all that favorable.

Bottom line is that reasonable arguements can be made either way.

My personal belief is that he will get votes but will always fall short.

What does rookie at the time being able to beat Pittsburgh have to do with Drew playing a very bad in that game have to do with the Bills decision? The Bills were not thinkg they should have played Losman that game. They made a decision to work for the future. Sometimes that works for teams and sometimes it doesn't. Losman may not be the chosen one, but they didn't think Drew would be either. Looks they were right on half of that decision.

I don't fault any team that goes with a young QB who could go on to be very good over an aging vet on the downside of their career. The Giants did it a couple of years ago and now the Cardinals and Titans are doing it. I am glad Dallas is doing it. Romo may not work out, but it was clear that Bledsoe wasn't either. It was clear to me before Drew ever signed with Dallas.

At this point I don't think that is necessarily true. Statistically, Losman is having a better season than Bledsoe. I do think Drew is better, but he should be. He is in his 14th season, while Losman is only in his 3rd. The same can be said about Bledsoe and Romo. Drew may be the better QB, but is he the best QB for the circumstances? Dallas nor Buffalo can do a good job of protecting the QB. That plays to the weakness of Bledsoe. Romo and Losman are both more mobile than Bledsoe and that makes them better suited than Drew at this point. Also, both may be there in the long run. Drew will not be. Most QBs in their mid 30s aren't the long term answer at QB.

I have no Bledsoe love. I'm glad he's not starting. I just don't put much stock in what happened to him in Buffalo. The team is awful and still cannot make good decisions about their team. Can anyone give me a legitimate argument that Losman is better than either Bledsoe or Holcomb?

You have to understand that many organizations look at these decisions at a much longer term than what most fans do-- i.e. a single season.

What about the Bills other decisions? Draft picks, trades, other personnel decisions, etc.? My point is that the organization has made so many poor decisions, they don't deserve the benefit of the doubt. Bledsoe doesn't either, so the situation is a wash for me.
