Will Cooper Rush's bonus opportunity happen?

When Cooper Rush signed his current contract two years ago, it included a bonus clause that pays him $500,000 if he plays in 55 per cent of the team's snaps in a season. And he gets $250k for playing 45 per cent of the snaps, which he has already earned this season.

My understanding is Rush has played in 52.3% of the snaps so far this season and will need 65 snaps Sunday against the Commodes to get his next bonus. In 16 games so far, the Cowboys’ offense averages about 64 snaps in a game. And Rush has averaged 65 snaps in his eight starts.

This makes for an interesting scenario Sunday. If Rush needs 65 snaps to cash in on his bonus, will he get the chance to play the whole game or will they insert Trey Lance at some point? And how will that play in the locker room if the team thinks Cooper Rush is getting shafted from his bonus by playing Lance?

What do you think will happen with this Sunday?

Jerry said they will make decisions for the good of the team...so he sits! lol
If by that Jerry means “gives us the best chance to win”, Rush will play a lot. If they see this game as a way to evaluate or showcase Lance or Grier, then Rush won’t play enough to get the bonus.

We're talking about $500k! I would bet all your money Bob that Jerry will pay him no matter what. Besides, I think we will run it back! Why not? It worked so well this year. LOL
Lol! Good point. No other front office in pro sports is more impressed with players who have collectively done almost nothing of playoff importance. They have made a long habit of re-signing “their guys”.

If I were owner, I would play Grier and Lance for evaluation and just give Rush his bonus anyways while he roams in street clothes.
Grier is a complete waste of time he’s pushing 30 and is a journeyman. They continue to say Trey Lance needs reps so this is an opportunity to give him reps. The longer we keep Lance standing on the sidelines the more of a wasted fourth round pick he becomes.

You don’t have to convince me, Lance should have been playing weeks ago. Grier and Rush should not be a part of this team moving forward, Lance probably shouldn’t be either. Dallas needs to find/draft a decent QB to develop and be the #2 in 2025.

There’s some talk going around that the Cowboys are afraid to play Lance because if he looks good, it could make it more difficult for them to re-sign him. My feeling is if they want to develop him this is an opportunity. They’re squandering games they could have played him in. If they move on from Rush they’ll have nothing at backup. They have won some games with him and Dak is starting to become injury prone. If they look for an upgrade over Rush it’s going to cost more money. With Dak coming off hamstring surgery they’re going to need a solid backup QB situation next season.

If that talk is circulating my bet it’s coming from Lance’s agent. No one, and I mean not a soul who has watched this guy play in preseason or before that with SF, would think Trey Lance is going to suddenly look impressive against a regular season set of NFL players.

Heres what makes me sick about having Trey Lance: Not only did we waste a 4th rounder on him, but he also has a total cap hit of $5.1 million this year! The cap hit for Saquon Barkley this year the way the egirls structured his contract is….wait for it…$3.8 million. So Trey Lance’s cap hit is over a million more than Saquon. What a great FO we have!

I'm just saying it saves the team money if he sits...which helps with the cap...which makes it for the good of the team.

Yeah, this is one time Jerry will intervene; save that 250K and start Lance.

TThe one game he played in he looked terrible. I remember the gameday thread. Everyone was calling for him to come in. He came in and looked REALLY bad. People were ready to cut him after 2 series. Now people are begging for him to play. He's just not good.

If nothing else Jerry loves his guys. He can't do anything else, but loyalty is his kryptonie. Rush will play, but if he doesn't get his snaps he will still get paid the bonus. If he cheaps out like Mara did with Danny Dimes I would be in shock

Jerry wouldnt dare admit he made a mistake in signing Trey "Ridin' the Pine" Lance so he will start Cooper "Hemispheres" Rush.

We could have developed two new players this year if Trey Lance and Zeke didn't occupy two roster spots and do noting to contribute to the team (unless 1 yard gains are your idea of contributing).

This! Trey Lance is a great RB and a very bad QB.
