Will Cooper Rush's bonus opportunity happen?

The 500k would be nice but he’s gonna get way more than that when the NFL pays out performance based pay bonuses. He’ll probably get a couple million.

When Cooper Rush signed his current contract two years ago, it included a bonus clause that pays him $500,000 if he plays in 55 per cent of the team's snaps in a season. And he gets $250k for playing 45 per cent of the snaps, which he has already earned this season.

My understanding is Rush has played in 52.3% of the snaps so far this season and will need 65 snaps Sunday against the Commodes to get his next bonus. In 16 games so far, the Cowboys’ offense averages about 64 snaps in a game. And Rush has averaged 65 snaps in his eight starts.

This makes for an interesting scenario Sunday. If Rush needs 65 snaps to cash in on his bonus, will he get the chance to play the whole game or will they insert Trey Lance at some point? And how will that play in the locker room if the team thinks Cooper Rush is getting shafted from his bonus by playing Lance?

What do you think will happen with this Sunday?

With Lance a soon to be FA why not see him perform in a real NFL Cowboys game ? You’re out of the playoffs you have nothing to lose you might see something that says bring him back for another year to compete .

Jerry does not “ owe “ Cooper Rush snaps so he can collect 250k .

We're talking about $500k! I would bet all your money Bob that Jerry will pay him no matter what. Besides, I think we will run it back! Why not? It worked so well this year. LOL
Sounds like he may have $250K locked up already at 45% and gets another $250K if he gets to 55%.

If that talk is circulating my bet it’s coming from Lance’s agent. No one, and I mean not a soul who has watched this guy play in preseason or before that with SF, would think Trey Lance is going to suddenly look impressive against a regular season set of NFL players.

Heres what makes me sick about having Trey Lance: Not only did we waste a 4th rounder on him, but he also has a total cap hit of $5.1 million this year! The cap hit for Saquon Barkley this year the way the egirls structured his contract is….wait for it…$3.8 million. So Trey Lance’s cap hit is over a million more than Saquon. What a great FO we have!
So we paid a dude more money than what the Eagles are paying Saquon to hold a clipboard all year....................YIKES:facepalm:

And people seem confused why the Eagles dog-walked us twice this year.

Very true for this year but following season cap hits are 6, 10 and 19 million .

Maybe we could have restructured following seasons but we have many more veterans to resign coming up like Parsons, Tyler Smith and Bland.

I think the bigger mismanagement is believing a RB by committee would work. And of course not addressing RB in draft knowing how critical our running game is to our QB’s effectiveness and success.

We set our QB and offense up for failure. Not to mention our weaknesses at receivers. Basically only 1 weapon on offense with Lamb. Ferguson at TE despite his injuries was less than serviceable this season as well.

As far as Rush’s bonus when first heard of it thought we crapped on him. And Jethro lies about not knowing his contract incentives. I thought he was our jocks to socks owner and GM.

Realistically I thought it was a good move to start Lance and see what we have . And he had his best performance. If Cooper bolts for another team which is a possibility , Lance on a lesser contract might be worth a 1 year extension.

And it’s entirely possible he wouldnt have reached the 65 snap counts threshold. But I’d agree on its face and fact Jethro was lying is disrespectful at best. Based on how well Cooper performed I’d give him the additional bonus anyway.

If we don’t then that probably fuels Rush bolting to another team which would serve us right as we finally had found a backup QB who can win a few games for us.

Much like I expect MM to bolt to another team which would serve us right for not resigning him earlier if we truly had intentions on retaining him. Jethro dragging his feet waiting to measure how public perception will fall probably burns him again. And rightfully so.
