Knowing we should have 3-4 comp picks, should we be aggressive with future picks to acquire players this year?

No, the team shouldn't be in a hurry anymore.

That being said, if there's an opportunity the FO likes then you do it, because they're paid to make tough decisions.

I wouldn't. We need to hit on as many pics that we can. On defense more than anything. Defense and depth.

We can only hope so!

Land two DEs early and loadup on depth at DBs in the process for this season.

Mid-late Round TEs and RBs are sic.

Absolutely YES. The Cowboys don't need 11 picks next year. In a defensive heavy draft this year, trade a 2018 4th and a 5th to get back into this draft and grab a great defensive player.

Those are my thoughts exactly.

Well. This is the perfect draft to do it in. Every opportunity to acquire picks in this draft should be looked at.
I don't know the strength of the 2018 draft as compared to this one.

Dallas isn't THAT far off from being a perennial contender; there is likely NOT going to be 11 drafted players next year that make the team, I would support trading something from next year if it produced another pick this year (if the deal was reasonable)

I wouldn't mind the Cowboys trading a pick(s) from next year to get into the 2nd-4th... 11 picks is great but that many rookies won't make the team... why not trade a couple

Especially for like Sydney Jones in the late 2nd or early 3rd

To maintain being a contender you need to hold the nucleus in place and bring in cheap, hungry, talented assets to round out the team. This team says it wants to use the draft for that and minimize FA dollar use. As well as the team has drafted in the last several years it is still given to chance a player will amount to anything. More picks increases your odds of hitting on players and creates competition that pushes people to try harder.

Even if there weren't 11 slots on the team available I'd rather get to the end of training camp having to cut a few guys that make other 53s than a bunch of nobodies that ride on practice squads and fade from the NFL in a year.

Again, that being said if the FO feels strongly enough about an opportunity then they should take it. They are paid to make these decisions and we are free to criticize the job they do.

There is a big gaping hole between our pick in the 4th round and our pick in the 6th round. In this draft, there will be a number of talented players that drop in that range. I would not be surprised at all, and I would support, giving up a 2018 pick to get back into the bottom fourth or fifth rounds.

To me if you are looking at the draft to push you over the top in 2017, then you are looking at the draft wrong. Instant gratifications not what its about. Its long term team building and maintenance. While we will likely have 11 picks next year, I also believe we have alot of FA's and fringe guys in particular that will need to be replaced

It would take a 2018 3rd to get a 2017 4th and a 2018 4th to get a 2017 5th

It's also about getting the maximum possible value with your capital. "Building through the draft" != being complacent with draft resources.

The majority of tail-end 4th round picks don't amount to anything at all. If the difference is having 9-10 picks instead of 11, but secured a player we had graded a tier above replacement, that's just smart to me.

That just pertains to this draft though. It's one of the deepest I've ever seen in secondary and talent depth in the 2-3 rounds. I'm assuming players will be within reach that are graded above replacement given the talent this year.

I don't get wanting a guy coming off this injury. He won't even be ready for next year. We're not outsmarting people with these moves for injured players
its not about "outsmarting" anyone, it's about value at a Position of need. How smart is it next year to draft 11 players when only 5-6 will make the team...

My point was that drafting Sidney jones in a trade up is ********. Jaylon smith watch 2.0.......I'm done with these injured guys
