Will Jerry ever let us draft an Option read QB?

Like someone said before, read option will not last. I'd rather have a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. I hate read-option quarterbacks, its annoying.

17 why don't you think it will last? Its getting more and more prominent. From NCAA to NFL now.

The first time some high profile, high money, high pick QB gets dead'd by some Chip Kelly clown it will be all over and it has almost already happened.

Wilcox can probably run it. The problem with that is you need the same QB in the game. If you sub for the read option then they know its likely coming. Of course it could still be effectual.

Personally I don't think it lasts.

That's what I was thinking.

Q wasn't a "read-option" guy but he was more of an athlete than he was a QB.

Jerry became infatuated with Randall Cunningham and that's why Quincy who had debatable 4th round talent (I wouldn't have taken him at all... Not with like a college career completion percentage of 49%) was drafted in the 2nd round.

Horrible, horrible draft pick. Bad QB.

Not as bad as that back-up, part time Safety from Alabama we picked a few spots after QC in the 2nd round.

Jerry Jones is sheer genius for making those picks.

When's the last time a running QB won a Super Bowl? That's what I thought. Give me the pro type drop back passer over the read option any day. It will go the way if the wildcat soon.

Jerry was just too far ahead of the curve. And yes, he drafted a QB that wasn't particularly fast and not particularly smart BUT HE COULDN'T EVEN THROW A SPIRAL. He had the right idea, just not the right QB in QC.

Did I mention that he COULDN'T EVEN THROW A SPIRAL?

Nah, he was infatuated with Donovan McNabb.

Welp, the 49ers were a bad call from winning last years SB. BTW Kaepernick isnt just a runner. The guy possesses a very accurate cannon. In fact I was shocked at how accurate an arm he has.

I like QBs who can run, scramble and improvise. I wish Tony was a better runner. Roger, Steve Young, and say McNabb come to mind. The first two were still pocket passers. It's nice to add the other dimension though. I haven't bought into the read/option yet but its getting interesting.

Read option quarterback you say? Manziel will slide in the draft and Jerry will be licking his chops at the potential $$$. Don't be surprised if it happens...I actually hope the guy is successful with all the criticism he gets, granted he has done most of the damage to himself.

It's an advantage to have a mobile QB whether you're running the option read offense or not. I'm not particularly in favor of running that particular type of offensive scheme but I surely wouldn't have anything against having a mobile QB in my offense, regardless of the scheme. The ability for a QB to run for yardage in case everyone is covered will always afford your offense an extra threat that having strictly a dropback type of QB might not.

We might want to take a closer look at the "read option" quarterbacks this year, see how well they're actually performing, and determine where the bulk of their production is coming from.
