What round will Joe Webb be picked in the NFL draft? (The Birmingham News photo)Joe Webb was featured by USA Today as one of the NFL Draft gems in the upcoming drafted.

The former UAB standout is predicted to be a fourth-round draft choice in the article.

His draft status has definitely improved after he played in the Senior Bowl and then put together a head-turning effort during UAB’s Pro Day.

One of the teams in attendance at the Pro Day -- the Pittsburgh Steelers – invited Webb to town earlier this week. He was one of about 10 prospects invited to attend a private workout but Webb didn’t work out for the team. Instead, he went to Pittsburgh for an extended job interview, which, apparently means the club liked what they saw while in Birmingham and didn’t need to see Webb on the field any more.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Webb’s name gets called by the Steelers during the draft.

This year's draft, by the way, will take place over three days. The first round will be chosen on Thursday, April 22 while rounds 2 and 3 will take place the following day. The remaining four rounds will begin on Saturday morning.
