Will Lawrence be next?

No they would be stupid not to keep him for this year.

Next year is another thing.
I would not keep Lawrence if it means losing Gallup, Gregory or Schultz... or one of our young safeties currently on one year deals making a high impact

Cap hit next year is 27M, 2023 cap is 29. If a June 1 cut, 2022 dead money is 8M, 2023 dead money is 11M. Saving 19M next year is a huge savings.
Damn for some reason I thought he had 1 more season of protection (contract wise). Almost 20 million dollar savings is a ton, that's almost enough to keep Gregory, Neal, and a young rising safety combined

He might be overpaid, but the difference between Dlaw and Jaylon is Dlaw can actually play football. Not happening

This season?

Absolutely not.

After the season?

I'd say that there's a very good chance:

POST-6/1 RELEASE

2022 Dead Cap: $8,000,000
2023 Dead Cap: $11,000,000
2022 Cap Savings: $19,000,000

Just because he don't collects sacks, he did another thing great. But another players don't take advantage of double or triple that dlaw collect. Now everyone play great. They can't put double or triple on dlaw often he will be noticeable

Keep Gallup, Gregory, Neal, Kearse, Hooker, and Kazee... keep em all. also I assume Anthony Brown is a cap cut next spring at latest.

I was thinking Elliott was on the chopping block but through 4 weeks he's been a bada$$ like his old self, so I think Elliott stays here long term, maybe retires here.

Finally... Super glad #9 is gone, one step closer to bringing back the band in free agency next year, the guys who got us there, after we win the super bowl.

Now we need to get rid of #90 asap. The last of the "hot boyz"... underachieving, massively overpaid and arrogant. Great players get stats... mediocre tier players get pressures and PFF praise but don't make big splash plays. If we get rid of 90 we will have plenty of space to easily bring back Gallup+Williams+Gregory+Schultz+Hooker+Neal+Kazee+Kearse and maybe LVE if we want.

Does he need to clear a physical (i.e., be cleared from the broken foot) before he can be waived/traded?

I can't wait....
He won't be released if anything traded

He's paid now for the year and DLaw is a very good player. Just paying him $29 million fully next year and he's been having injury issues is a no no. Yes, we'll eat a good portion of that but we'll get it over with for the future and yes get to use some of that money to sign some of those players.

if we got rid of him before the league year we can still keep gallup and the rest of the free agent crop sans the bottom barrel guys.

that's the point, Micah and Diggs are already outperforming Lawrence, yeah I get it it's a different position... but they're making plays. Arguably Gregory and Odighizuwa, too, are better than Lawrence right now.

You don't pay 20+ million for a guy who was a sack monster in 2017 and 2018 and got lazy at rushing the passer ever since.
:hammer:

No. Lawrence is a fantastic staple end. Sacks aren't the only measurement. Pressures, and run defense are just as important. Unless he drops of to Jaylon world in skill set I don't see it happening. Trading him is a different story.

you don't pay Lawrence Taylor money for a Greg Ellis.

The FO is cutting deadwood. Notice to the team, be worth your contract or face the consequences. This team is going places and they don't have time for players that don't contribute commensurately to their contract. DLaw should consider himself on notice. He'll return and ball out or yes, he'll be next.
