Jerry thinks he is trying, does that count? We don't.

Why will Guyton? Because he promised to get better and was drafted high? And I have yet to see McClay find a diamond in the rough, has had terrible second round picks for years, and only seems to hit on almost for sure quality prospects.Guyton will.
McClays best days are behind him? He is one of the best in the league at his job. Moving on from him would be a huge mistake.
Because Guyton wasn't ready to be a walk in day one starter but was given the job. And he is learning a new position changing sides. Yes he will get better. Lots better. Not to mention, look at the DE's he faced until he got hurt. Why will Guyton? Because he promised to get better and was drafted high? Will McClay is not the problem.
Thinking Will McClay is the problem...is a problem.
This is the answer. Jerry is overly dependent on hitting in the draft and puts forth little effort in building through FA and trades. The success rate needed to operate this way is very unrealistic and after decades in the NFL, any "Football Guy" would know that.McClay really hasn’t done a bad job, the issue is Jerry being so dependent upon hitting in the draft. When you dive into draft success across the league you see that it’s just not realistic to hit on enough players to sit out free agency on a regular basis.
Guyton was a first round pick. Nobody is saying he should have been an all-pro, but he is one of the WORST tackles in the league right now. There is nothing shown yet that he possesses first round talent or even high second round. He's been that bad. The only reason anyone is saying they are sure he will be good is because of where he was drafted and because he's said the right things on the mic after games. Good he's accountable for his poor play.....but still plays poorly.Because Guyton wasn't ready to be a walk in day one starter but was given the job. And he is learning a new position changing sides. Yes he will get better. Lots better. Not to mention, look at the DE's he faced until he got hurt.
McClay found at least one diamond in the rough just last April. Maybe 2. Carson is a good one and Flournoy certainly looks the part.
You can't blame McClay for those 2nd round blunders. Making draft picks isn't his job. It never has been. BP said it best when it comes to McClay:
this is the second year in a row our draft has come up empty....and that depletes a team of talent quickly. specially one that refuses to sign FAs and goes checking the bottom of the barrell.I had enough for this guy - Guyton looks a bust .
Zero playmakers drafted - ZERO - no gamebreakers - nobody’s whose jersey would sell after CD.
This guy is a fraud
Bass.He is a developmental project. Making the switch from LT to RT is not easy to do.
I would strongly consider making a change during the bye week.
LT - Smith
RT - Guyton
ST - Steele
Who becomes our LG???
