well after 28 years of the jones BS the draft would be okay but they have had to many misses not hits. parson was a rare hit but the rest was and is a crap shoot. here is the thing your the coach and before you make a roster change jerry comes out with his big mouth on tv and sabotages you. put this ball in your court what would you do just stay quiet like a good little guy or go in his office and tell him that it was not right to put his drunk opinion in on my decisions, that is why JIMMY JOHNSON left and how many super bowls has jerry won with his so called GM style
Diggs was a hit, no denying all the picks even when giving up a big play here or there. Apparently dudes that criticize him haven’t seen the turnstile that is Ramsey nowadays. Whether he’s worth a big contract is a different matter.

just like every season before that's how it's gonna go, draft, cheap free agent, some wins a playoff appearance and then the wall again and then another repeat of the years before it's like the old bill murray movie ground hog day, only this year the offense may be worst not better

I think it’s more mcclay is good at his job which gives the jones confidence to get guys cheap through the draft - which is a fine theory and you can have succes but it can’t be the only way to acquire top talent and that’s how they run the team

One of the things that frustrates me most is that the Joneses finally learned how to draft better around the same time they decided to be frugal in free agency. Back when Jones was slinging money around, we were a pretty bad drafting team.

They can't seem to understand that you have to do both well to succeed. If you bring in a La'Roi Glover and draft a Shante Carver, Ebenezer Ekuban and Kavika Pittman, you're still not going to be very good. If you draft a Micah Parsons, but bring in a Carlos Watkins. Tarell Basham and Brent Urban, you might be better, but you're still not going to be great.
This is exactly it

I hate the Jones clowns as much as anybody but I will never understand the criticism that they are "cheap" or that the strategy is to "spend less" on free agents. I am assuming that everyone is well aware of the existence of the salary cap. I am also assuming that everyone is well aware that the Cowboys spend every single dollar that they can each and every year.

For what it's worth no ownership group was crippled as badly as the Cowboys when the salary cap became a thing. If the clown show proved anything they proved that they would spend as much money on players as it takes.

We spend all of our money resigning our own draft picks because our leadership group becomes emotionally attached to their draft picks. It is pathetic and it consistently drags the team down.

It's all about how you spend the dollars. The cap is malleable, so teams can fit who they want to fit under it. Money can be moved around. The Cowboys are very good about rewarding their players (so I wouldn't say they are cheap in that way), but also very insistent on not spending much money on outside free agents. As other teams have shown, that isn't necessary to maintain or manage the cap. When it comes to outside free agents, there strategy is actually to "spend less" and it hasn't exactly been a successful strategy.
