Will Nolan run a 3-4 or 4-3 defense?

we desperately need an upgrade to the interior DL. That's a so-much for us in the draft.
and if we are switching to a 3-4 base. we will need a stud NT and top quality.3-4 DEs. Cameron Jordan-types, ..not just scrub JAG- fillers in FA.

Honestly, we need this regardless of whether we do a 3-4 or 4-3. Just becomes a bigger need in a 3-4

I actually don’t think the switch to a 3-4 is as difficult as it sounds. We have lot a Free Agents on the DL and have to sign players regardless.

Make a few signings like this.
FA NT Danny Shelton (Patriots) 6-4 340
FA OLB/DE Kyler Fackrell (Packers) 6-5 245 10.5 sacks in 2018 (drafted by MM)
FA SS Vonn Bell (Saints) Nolan connection.
Bring back a guy like Crawford at a reduced price. (Played in a 3-4/ and 4-3)
Draft a top Man Corner&depth on DL
Bring back Lee

Front Seven 3-4/4-3 Under
LVE Jaylon Lee
Fackrell Craw Shel Tank

Jones came from the Patriots which were primarily running a 34 then... nothing changed going to Arizona. Lawrence has put alot of time getting his weight from 251 when drafted to around the 270 he's at now. Don't really see him flexible enough to drop into coverage and his 4.8 combine speed at 251 probably hasn't gotten any better!

and they will design and diversify how they would use in Dlaw as a 3-4 OLB.
At 265 range, he's just not big enough to be a 3-4 end either. So like Chandler Jones, he would have to play the 3-4 OLB role.
And have to hope it works and Nolan can best scheme for him.

The better coaches adapt and scheme to what their better players can do.
Kevin Greene wasn't depended upon to drop into coverage as a 3-4 OLB either. and if anything they drop back into occasional zone coverages, not take on a lot of man coverage.

But we'll have to wait to see Nolan's base defense and scheme concept is made of.

I'm hoping 4-3...Love the 4-3 and Dallas has won every Super Bowl we've won with it to boot:cool:

There's an article under the news forum that breaks down Nolan's past schemes. While he's more comfortable with a 3-4 they were predicting he will probably mainly run the 4-3 but also use some 3-4 and hybrid looks as well. But one thing Nolan definitely prefers is big bodied NT's in the middle. A little contrary to what Marinelli had. Will be interesting to see.

Nolan is going to run a 4-3 defense in Dallas. Dallas doesn't have the players to run a 3-4 and Nolan seems to prefer 4-3. That's what he ran in Atlanta.
