Will Spears ever be a dominant player?

and Mike Zimmer's problem is that he's coaching one of the best Ds in the league, face it, you have no point whenever you bring up Zimmer in a negative light, and your sig's still stupid

and excuse me, how exactly is our D, "bend but dont' break"? you have any factual basis for that statement? and did Parcells not say that Ware will be better...next year? I think that means no amount of coaching is going to get Ware to the point the Cowboys expect him to be, only experience will, same goes for Spears

hell, look at Greg Ellis, yeah Zimmer's really holding him back, he only has 8 sacks as a 3-4 DE, and only playing at about 40 snaps a game

I am thinking that the NEXT year thing could mean that Parcells will have a new DC here and that is why he said that. Hmmmmm...

Ellis is doing good in spite of Mike Zimmer. Just like our defense is doing good in spite of Mike Zimmer. There is so much talent on this D that anyone could look good. Now with a REAL DC in here this D could be one of the most feared and best ever.

so when our D struggles, it's Zimmer's fault, but when our D is doing great, it's in spite of him? so what is Zimmer doing nowadays? handing out towels and pats on the @$$? and maybe Ellis is doing well because he's experienced?

Ok, about 56% of the fans around here think it's too early to judge Spears and I'll concede this with the TC injury and all.

For now, he's on a temporary reprieve from the "bust label" until he completes his 17th game. :ref:

IMO I think the only reason Zimmer is still here is cuz the guy Parcells wants will be there after this season. No need to fire Zimmer last year. Get a guy he really did not want this year. And then hire the guy he really wants this year.

No need to have 3 different DCs in 3 years. That is what it is I think.

We were assured he is just a figurehead. As usual, not based on any common sense or facts.

when bill talks about them being better next year that not code for i'm firing zimmer. thats a silly statement. your letting your hate for zimm spin everything into something negative about him. he's is referring to the off season program. spears neeeds to get much stronger and with his size he should be a whole lot stronger next year. ware and all thwe guys will be better next year after the off season program and with a year under there belts.if you look at what others are doing and put it into the actuallycontext you will see merriman is not playing better than ware. he is playing a different role. i've watch every s.d. game and he only is a designated pass rusher. pbviously you gonna have different stas if all you do is pass rush compared to a guy who has to cover recievers

Spears needs more time and since he missed so much time with what we initially thought was a season-ending injury earlier. Just because of where he was picked, that doesn't automatically guarantee he's going to come in and light it up immediately, we need to be more patient with him and see how he develops.

I'm a bit dissappointed that he has been practically invisible in a lot of games and so is parcells if you listened to his press conferences when asked about him a few weeks ago. I don't expect him to be a star but I'd like a little production from him. However, the whole team up front seems to be fading a bit in recent weeks in the pass rush. Glover and Ware haven't had sacks in quite a while. ROLB has not been a threat all year which has to be addressed in the off season. Ellis is our only consistent guy getting to the QB at this point.

Spears will more than likely improve in the off season so I wouldn't call him a bust just yet. How much he can improve and what kind of player he can ultimately be is up for debate at this point. Tony Tolbert and Leon Lett both became pretty good linemen for us but neither caught the world on fire their rookie seasons.

This is why I didn't want him. I loved him his junior year at LSU, but he underachieved in his senior year and he wasn't hurt. I like players who improve with time, not regress.

I wish we could of traded down, still picked Spears at 25 or so and got Chris Henry, I was all over him back in April

Hes jsut what we needed , a raw playmaker, he has like 5 TD's this year and was supposed to be a project
