BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1 is reporting that Sutton has dropped weight (290 now) and has gain his explosiveness like he had before. Reported that he could go as early as the mid-second round. If this is true and Donald is off the board at 16, I would be all for getting him in the 2nd especially if we could get Barr in the first. Sutton was a beast his junior year. What does everyone think?

Yeah, even dropping the weight. The guy still has some size limitations and the not as good senior year that should keep his draft stock lower than 2nd. Not every team are looking for 3 techs.

hmm, not so sure on this guy in the 2nd...but, if he moves into that range, perhaps he helps to push someone down to us...

Push who down? He happens to play a position where we need help.

I just don't see him as a 2nd round talent currently...perhaps it helps to push Crichton down to our pick, who knows

Well, I don't know about right now, but he didn't really have his explosiveness back for his pro day and he had lost weight then. His pro day was not a good one.

The guy just doesn't seem explosive to me, at all, and that is what Marinelli wants from his DL. I don't know, maybe I'm really off here... but I just don't like him any earlier than the 3rd.

You're not missing much....I personally wouldn't even put him in the top 10 DT's of this draft class for our needs. He's a small pass rushing DT who isn't particularly quick, not a good sign for his NFL future.

I think he'll ultimately end up playing 1 tech. He has 3 tech skills, I just think his natural playing weight will be above 300 lbs. If we pick him up in the 2nd or 3rd, he and Melton could be a great duo inside.

Jernigan has short arms and we invited him for a visit.

We also invited Sutton in for a visit

I have Sutton as a late 2nd early 3rd
If we trade back and add a late 2nd or early 3rd then I think we could get him

I disagree. He is better than jernigan or quarles for this defense as a 3 tech.

I would take him early 3rd.

Trade back like last year and add Shazier or a DE and then add Sutton in the early 3rd like we did with williams

He could back up Melton and push to start at the 1. Kind of surprised he wasn't on the visit list (although we don't know the complete visit list).

Sutton isn't better than Jernigan....at anything. And they aren't even remotely comparable.

I think you have this player confused with someone else or you have no idea what you are talking about.

Sutton gaining weight is exactly what cost him big money this past season. His natural playing weight, where he was the most productive, was less than 300. His optimal weight was at 285-290.

That's my point. I said better as a 3 tech and he is better by far. Jernigan is a 1 tech only in this scheme.

Two separate players and positions. I would take Sutton over Jernigan. I value a good 3 tech over a good 1 tech.

No, I'm saying he's not better than Jernigan at any aspect of playing the sport of football. How is Sutton such a better 3 tech option when Jernigan is the better athlete of the two? Sutton is short with t rex arms to go with an only average burst off of the line. He's going to get eaten alive in the nfl.

You may want to look up Jernigan arm length and Sutton in 2012 has a far better burst than stand up Jernigan does.

Jernigan has 31 5/8 arms
Sutton has 31 1/4 arms

Jernigan is slow out of his stance and stands up at the line and reads the play then reacts. Sutton shoots the gaps and makes plays. 2012 Sutton was unstoppable.
