They owe Manning like #18 million roster bonus and have already said they will draft Luck.

They said no trade, no release.

The team doctor will never clear him for play without risk of paralysis. A valid position, purely medical.

Instead they will make him their new QB Coach-

Problem solved. ;)

Irsay wont be cowed: already said he's drafting LUck. Payton will be released OR they'll have him retire and buy him out. LOT of money at stake but Irsay is no wuss and no door mat. The mannings sure can be a surly lot to deal with though.:laugh1:

Manning will be QB at Arizona next year... book it...

From what I have heard they will indeed release him if he does not pass the physical with flying colors.

Also, that they will not trade him. Sounds like it is out of giving him the choice to go where he wants.

My guess is he is done either way in Indy.

Well if RGIII doesn't come out (I haven't seen that he's made a decision yet so forgive me if I missed that) theres your QB. You can have the QB who will get released when he can't pass his physical properly.

Manning should just retire. He's got his ring and there is no reason to risk even further injury just to keep playing.

He's due a 28 million dollar bonus in March... the Colts would be foolish to pay that...

Of course, the Bidwell's and Irsay's were widely known as football's version of Dumb and Dumber before Warner/Manning came along and made them both "smart"...

They may just pay him...

They have to pay him or release him.

For the sake of the Colts, Peyton can make things much easier by just retiring.

Trading him is not an option

I think Colts keep Manning and will draft Luck. I don't think the Colts will look to throw Luck to the wolves this season.

This line of reasoning makes my head hurt

Which would hamper the team for years with a salary cap burden that would limit them for years. You do not pay a QB 28 million period and draft a QB with the #1 overall pick.

Then you are setting back your franchise for years and Luck will never have a chance to be successful.

I don't know about that. When a QB is as ready as Luck is and he is on a team that isn't reasonably expected to compete for a playoff spot then there really is no reason not to play him.

I think ultimately they redo Manning's deal and he goes somewhere else.

With the modification of Rookie salary the Colts likely will not spend as much as in years past for Luck.

That was my biggest question on it. With the rookie salary thing changing I was wondering just how much it would effect a decision like this.

I think it is a bit easier if they choose to keep Manning and draft Luck.

Either way Manning is going go cost Indy regardless if he stays or leaves, you may as well take advantage of the next 2 years of Manning and have Luck waiting in the wings to take over. I think Manning could be a big help to Luck as well

If Joe "Freakn, all I do is win SB's" Montana was releasable then Peyton "won one, blew one SB's" Manning is releasable.

And...
Yes, foolish.
