Will the Colts release Manning?

I don't know about that. When a QB is as ready as Luck is and he is on a team that isn't reasonably expected to compete for a playoff spot then there really is no reason not to play him.

I think ultimately they redo Manning's deal and he goes somewhere else.

If he was a running QB maybe but as a pocket passer I think he will suffer early on as teams will go after him. Over the long haul I think Luck will be great but I don't think he is as ready to step in on day 1 as some think.

If Joe "Freakn, all I do is win SB's" Montana was releasable then Peyton "won one, blew one SB's" Manning is releasable.

And...
Yes, foolish.

Not to nitpick but I'm pretty sure that Montana getting released came right before there was a salary cap the way it is now in place and he didn't make nearly the money that Peyton does.

So the Niners weren't getting financially hit the same way the Colts will today. It's really not even a close comparison in situation from the side of the argument that matters most and that's the finanical side.

It had more to do with having Steve Young on the bench who had been waiting for his chance and 49ers feeling Young was ready to take over the role.

Oh yes I know. I'm just saying that not withstanding the decision is much easier to make back then without a cap and without Montana costing them multi, multi, multi millions of dollars to cut.

Totally different ball game today.

Seriously, who in their right mind would pay a $28 million roster bonus and a large salary to someone who may not even be able to ever throw a football again or take a hit and is 36 years old?

Most likely the Colts will release him. Peyton will make a lot less money if he can still play and goes to another team. That may be a blessing in disguise. Reggie Wayne may be gone. The Colts will absolutely, positively suck next year. Peyton will be a free agent and can choose a possible contender like the Jets.

Young had already taken over. Montana missed all of 1991 with elbow problems I believe. Young played the whole season. Montana came back near the end of the 1992 season and saw playing time in the regular season finale; however, Young had essentially taken over the starting role that year. Montana was then traded to the Chiefs.

Andrew Luck is said to the best QB prospect in years. If that is the case, and some 'lesser' prospects have been able to step in to their teams' spot, why not Luck? I think he's a day one starter for the Colts. As for Peyton, I could see him in Miami, N.Y. (Jets) or Washington. I really think the Jets will be a big player for him.

I don't know why Manning would even risk it

I know I would not risk it

like he doesn't have enuf money stashed away already
