Signing him would mean that Henry is definitely moving to FS.

We would certainly have the most expensive secondary in the league, thats for sure.

This guy is not that good I watch him play all the time in Buffalo. He's a good #2, maybe a #1 on a bad defense, but certainly not worth big time money.

No. Won't sign Clements.
Agreed. We go after the smaller fish and stay out of the bidding wars. This will be the worst year ever for overpaying FA's. Remember what we did last year.

Bills | Team expected to lose Clements in offseason

Mark Gaughan, of the Buffalo News, reports the Buffalo Bills will unlikely be able to re-sign CB Nate Clements, who is expected to receive a lucrative offer as a free agent in the offseason.

this could be the missing piece to our secondary..especially if henry is moved to FS

Newman, Clements, Henry and Roy playing close to the line...now that is NASTY!

I would rather have Asante Samuel from NE, he is just SICK!!!

i doubt they sign him because at least 10 teams with corner trouble will make very high offers for him. i would prefer Samuel from the Pats. i thinks clements end up with the skins or titans

Samuels from NE would be my choice. That guy is a playmaker.

If Adam's around, it'd be nice if he could give us a statistical rundown on Nate.

In 2005, he was not good. In the combined KC Joyner/Football Outsiders shutdown cornerback rankings, out of the 58 cornerbacks who started at least 10 games, he ranked anywhere from 42nd to 51st, depending on the statistic (things such as yards per pass, target percentage, yards per target, success percentage, etc.). I'm still working on combining STATS' numbers into those, but STATS had him eighth (eighth-worst) in times targeted, catches allowed, yards allowed and touchdowns allowed.

In 2006, he was slightly better, but STATS still had him 16th (16th-worst) in times targeted, 11th in catches allowed and 29th in yards allowed.

Here's how STATS had Clements and Anthony Henry for 2006 --

Clements -- 59-for-99 (59.6 percent), 658 yards, one TD, 20 PD, three INT
Henry -- 60-for-110 (54.5 percent), 688 yards, five TD, 21 PD, two INT

If Clements doesn't revert back to the way he played in 2004, he really wouldn't be an upgrade over Henry. And if he played like he did in 2005, he'd be worse -- and he'd make a lot more money.

Samuels would be a better target then.

Well, there's that whole "code" between Parcells, Bellicheck, and that whole line of coaches. Don't know if their relationship has maintained that, however.

You the man, great work.

After this analysis, I think I will pass.

Asante Samuel would be my choice or trade up for Leon Hall

Then we should lose BP.

(add it to the list of reasons to cut BP lose)

You want Moss even if Carp stays OLB and James keeps his spot?

If James keeps his spot then we definitely need help.

Well if James is ILB then Carp, Akin and Ware all keep their jobs.

This would put us in need for a guy who can play DE in the 3-4 and apply pressure.

Asante Samuel wasn't much better, according to STATS. He allowed 54 catches on 102 attempts for 646 yards (52.9 percent) and two touchdowns, with 24 passes defelected. He missed one game, so those numbers would project to 58-for-109 for 689 yards over 16 games -- almost identical to those for Henry and Clements.

The difference, of course, was that Samuel had 10 interceptions this season. But he never had more than three picks in any year before this season, and his shutdown numbers weren't any better than Clements' numbers last season (STATS had Samuel allowing fewer completions but more yards and touchdowns, Joyner had Samuel allowing the 10th-most yards, and FO had him allowing the 12th-most).

But he is only 25 whereas Henry is 30 and might be our FS.

If we do move him to FS we obviously need someone to play #2 CB.

Leon Hall will be gone before pick 22 so I think we need to address it in FA.

Also, now we know Thomas is pretty much off the market we can use our cap room to attain Samuels.
