Will the offense, defense or ST be in the top 10?

So with all of the improvements in the offseason, I wonder if the offense, defense or ST will be in the top 5. I can see that the offense can really be explosive with the two tight end set and the addition of TO, and the defense has really matured since we changed to the 3-4, two/three years ago. I just threw in ST because it is an important part of the game (actually can you really rank ST overall) which we did not do well in that category . It will be great competiton in camp as the 1st team offense and 1st team defense go head to head in practice everyday. But who wins??

Also there are two different type of rankings and they rate them by yards and points. So what are your predictions for the rankings and why??

The defense was #11 last year.

Ware and the rookies in year 2 > Ware and the rookies in year 1

Singleton/Carpenter > Fujita

Ayodele > Shanle, et al that replace Dat.

Coleman/Watkins > Davis

Healthy Henry > Glenn

The offense was #13. Our OL is improved and TO will certainly add some more yardage. Fasano adds another option and JuJo should have a much better year.

In other words, its a very realistic prediction to have both our offense and defense in the top 10.

I think if any of the 3 will make it into the top 10, it would be the defense. They still haven't done enough on the o-line to impress me enough to have the offense rise above #13 or #14.

I think the Defense will be in the top 5, I think 4th is very possible.

The Special Teams in the top 10 around 9.

The offense around 12th to 15th.

We were 13th last year.

Add the best receiver in the game and stay the same? With the alleged improvements along the Oline? I think you're selling it short Hos.

I know if we're not top 10 in both offense and defense, I'm going to be disappointed. This team isn't built to be on "cusp" status anymore. The age of our QB and the addition of TO dictates that, IMO.

I'm looking at it as points scored, not yardage. Weighing that against the offseasons had by other teams as well as ours. Hence the difference.

I don't think we'll be a scoring machine, just a steady team that relies on defense.

Even so - scoring wise - they were 15th last year. I'm expecting this new offense to be a big producer, adding TO alone and getting him Keyshawn's catches is worth a few spots alone. Let's say we really did need more athletic linemen, and that was it. I really think less than top 10 is a disappointment, grinding or not.

I mean, PIT was 9th this year, and there's no way we're gonna be throwing as infrequently as they did.

Just out of curiousity, has any team in recent history ever finished number 1 on both offense and defense?

I can't think of any, perhaps the 85 Bears?

barring injuries this team has the talent to be not only top 10, but top 5 in all three of those categories

I'm seeing the defense and the special teams in the top 10.

We'll just be outside the top 10 on offense.

If the offensive starters stay healthy, they will easily be in the top ten. TO is such a huge threat that will open up all those around him.

I agree Michael. BP is just to conservative on offense and now that we have Vandy we could set a team record for FG's this year.

It isn't just the rankings though SP. It's how big the jump is. Here, let me show you.

1. Seahawks...452 points.
2. Colts...439.
3. Giants...422.
4. Bengals...421.
5. Chargers...418.
6. Chiefs...403.
7. Broncos...395.
8. Panthers...391.
9. Steelers...389.
10. Patriots...379.
11. Rams...363.
12. Jaguars...361.
13. Commanders...359.
14. Falcons...351.
15. Cowboys...325.

Let's assume that none of these teams explode (move up) and none of them implode (crash to earth).

Just to get to 14 is a 26 point jump. To get to the top 10 is a 54 point jump.

This also assumes that no one right behind us, like the Eagles and Dolphins can have a better offensive year.

I don't see that my guess of 12th at best is out of line. There are good offenses ahead of us and behind us.

The additions Owens, Kosier, & Fasano over Key, LA, & Polite doesn't seem to add up to enough points in my mind. In fact I see 2 steps forward, Owens & Fasano, and 1 back, LA.

I think defense will rank in the top 5, ST will be in the top 8 and the offense will rank #13 and #1 in points and ToP, respectively.

Isn't the calculation of number 1 offense done on yards rather then points? I agree that looking at the points is more significant, but just thought the rankings were done by yards.

Yes, they are, but I never have and never will.

You have to factor in what TO brings to the offense, he makes everyone around him better with the attention he gets from defenses. Thats the reason the Cowboys are taking a chance on him. If he didn't bring this kind of dramatic upgrade to the offense then they wouldn't have gambled on him and paid him so much.

Keyshawn had 6 tds in each of his seasons with the Cowboys. TO had six in seven games last year, 14 in his first season with the eagles. So if TO gets 14 tds that will be 56 more points by his position alone. McNabbs tds went from 16 in 2003 to 31 in 2004 with TO.(That would be a 105 point upgrade)And the eagles didn't have anywhere near the complementary players that Dallas does.

McNabb's TD production went up, but the Eagles offense didn't make the monumental leap you're describing.

In 2003, the Eagles scored 374 points without Owens.

In 2004, they scored 386 with him. That's only a 12 point jump.
