Will the Pats get their asterisk too

A TOPIC IN ANOTHER FORUM:

So Barry Bond's record setting ball is getting sold to the HOF--with an asterisk! How appropriate is that?! Hammerin' Hank should rightfully smile when he sees that.

This then leads to the question: Do the Patriots championships warrant asterisks too? I think maybe so. Since they went to such over-the-top lengths to cheat right in the face of the commissioner--America will always wonder about what other cheating they've been involved with? Everything under Bill's reign is suspect and tainted.

I think millions of fans will forever look at Bill Belichick and see an asterisk psychically affixed to his forehead.

Drew Bledsoe on Espn News
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was just watching espnnews when i saw that drew bledsoe would be coming on for an interview. Most of the questions were related to TO/Moss and his insight about both teams. His answer to one question was "interesting" to say the least. When asked how he felt about people saying the super bowl title which he won in NE may be tainted because of the spygate controversery, Bledsoe said something to the effect of "We tried hard to get every competitive advantage that we could and we were very good at it." I may be over reacting but if I was asked that question and I didn't think that the title was tainted I would've stood up and said people can think what they want, we won because we were the better team. Like I said, this may be nothing but I thought it was interesting.

Or maybe he's sour grapes-he was pretty pissed when BB made Brady the starter over him when he recovered from his injury.

But yeah-it is interesting. If all this dust starts coming out of the rug, we could very well see the end of professional sports. Too bad Goodell didn't take a stand when it COUNTED.

I heard something about that Bonds thing with the baseball, if its true its pure genius. A guy bought the record setting ball and branded an asteric on it, then gave it to the HOF...Is this true ?

And to think...all of my younger playing day was baseball through one year of college, and now I cannot stand to watch a game! It's been more years than I can remember since I have even seen a game...

What a pathetic sport nowdays, and that is so sad!

1) Bonds never failed one drug test. In fact there was no steroid testing till a few years ago. So what rule did Bonds and about 50-75% of MLB break again? Other than the 73 homerun season Bonds homer totals mirrored Hank Aaron. And Hank played in the launching pad versus the Candlestick and the old cavernous Pittsburgh park.

Asterick not happening here - it's silly. Jimmy Johnson admitted doing it with Cowboys. Are our Super Bowls astericked too? 70's Steelers were the first team doing steroids. Asterisk? San Fran and Denver cheated Salary cap? Asterisk?

Spit balls, corked bats are funny. Its 100% legal to try and steal signals. Always has and always will be. Means to do it is only thing that changed.

Well, I cannot dispute any of that...it's just I used to absoutely love baseball...played catcher primarily and first base sometimes, but when they cancelled the World Series...I was done with that sport!

Yeah, there is that saying, "if your are not trying to cheat, you are not trying to win"...However! When you are caught cheating and are told by the league TO NOT CHEAT and then do it again the next game? What does that tell you?

Screw baseball...

And we know you are a Patriots* fan, but come on, my friend, even you should be smarter than that...

Then taint them all, ours included in 1990's because JJ did it.

Shannahan also I read a quote a few years back said he had guys dedicated to reading signals and wanted them decoded by halftime. With that much priority they were clearly taping also.

Big tadoo about nothing, really. And ironically Pats have steamrolled every opponent in 2007.

I'm a Dallas fan that lives back door to Foxboro, in fact work in Foxboro. I still believe Pats dynasty is BB and Pioli Great work.

This spygate is silly, are you ready to dismiss our Jimmy Johnson's SB's for doing the same? Please answer that.

No! I agree with you...sweep it under the rug and let it go.

3 Super Bowls in 4 years is a dynasty. Just like JJ was taping signals, so were Pats and most all teams.

Now its a different thing to make that play out on field....
JJ later said he stopped the practice because it gave him no edge*

Not now it isn't...because of free agency and the salary cap.

When the Cowboys won their SuperBowls in the 90's, every team had the money to spend on whatever they wanted to spend it on player wise..that is a dynasty.

When every team now days are equal in money salary cap wise and are able to win some SuperBowls against bad teams? No...not a dynasty at all!

This current Patriot* team would get their *** kicked by the 90's Cowboys...the 49'er would kick their butt too! The Steelers would smash their mouths in! The Bear would crush them!

Those are the teams that the Cowboy had to compete against...not some watered down NFL...

No dynasty for you!

According to Raiderfan their first championship always had an asterick for the Tuck call.

And lay off the hatred of my beloved baseball! Geez, some football fans forgot about the guys from the 70s that injected everything in their body as well as the number of players who've died in their 40s. If that doesn't sound warnings about enchanced usage I don't know what does......

Just for the record-the Rams, Panthers, and Eagles haven't exactly been the same teams since their SBs with the Pats.

Mike Martz and "The Greatest Show on Turf" got *exposed*, BIG TIME-since then, Kurt and Sue Warner went from being the Brangelina of the NFL to just getting lucky enough to find serviceable backup roles.

The "Biggest Football Heart" Panthers' secondary has gotten consistently shredded since that SB.

And McNabb has won what, just a few games since that SB?

Hey-I'm not complaining.:D

Asterisks are awarded based on perception. And the perception is that the Patriots took sign stealing to a higher level by employing more sophistocated technology (e.g., cameras) and that they did it in an amazingly brazen and arrogant fashion.

Yes, their championships are tainted. As they should be. The Patriots wrecklessly risked their reputation by violating the rules in a stupidly transparent and obvious manner. They cheated shamelessly and arrogantly and their reputation has suffered as a result. They discredited themselves.

Sure, they have an asterisk. IMO, the only argument is about the size of the asterisk. I don't think the Patriots' asterisk is as large as Barry Bonds', but the Patriots certainly have one.

Matt Murphy, a 21-year-old student and construction supervisor from New York, emerged from a scuffle holding the ball. He said he decided to sell it because he couldn't afford to pay the taxes required to keep it.

What kind of taxes are involved with catching a baseball at a game ?

Not only that, in my opinion if you are a dynasty you blow teams out. Did the Cheats win any of their SBs by more than a FG? IIRC at least two of them were only by a FG. How can you claim to be a dynasty when you are beating watered down teams by a FG.
