Will these guys ever learn?

Fans know this, the problem is the Cowboys moved past being a normal sports franchise years ago, normal NFL fans do not go to Cowboys games as Cowboys fans its an event and the other teams fans... if we took everything and made it equal but put the game in Green Bay in December in the ice... how many of the "fans" at the last game would show up?
Right! I call our stayjum fans, esp season ticket holders, “ limousine fans.” if they don’t attend themselves, they’ll always give their tickets to friends as gifts so one way or another the stadium will always be full.
I was given tickets as a gift from a season ticket holder of the Texas Rangers. The seat was right behind home plate with one of the parking passes that gave you a spot right up by Ranger Stadium. Of course the Rangers were good at the time and it wasn’t the same situation but of course I sure went to that game vs the Orioles!
So not only does JJ still profit but there’s no way to even hurt his ego or his pride with empty seats, which is probably just as important if not more so than the income.

So fans that buy merchandise are idiots?
Because they do not think or act the way you do or want them to do.

That is what is idiotic. People are idiots because they do not conform to the way many on here are.

Many fans are fans that do not care about ownership. They watch games and root for the team. Then can care less about the off season. Then when the season starts, they are cheering for their team.

That probably covers about 90% of the fans.
They all are not on here hating everyone down to the water boys.
Every fan has the right to express their displeasure or agreement with the teams and coaches Jones assembles every season. It's up to the fan. I thoughtfully spend my money on who and what I want to support. Will the dollars I allocated for the Dallas Stars instead of the Dallas Jonesboys impact Jerry's pocketbook enough? Of course not, but it's a matter of principle.

They will never lose money, the stands will never be empty. Unfortunately there are too many Cowboy fans that just don't seem to care about continued mediocrity. It really blows my mind until I remember here I am on the message board another year.

Now that we’re out of the playoffs for the second year in a row and for the 16th time this century, many wise fans on this forum have some good notions about how to get better or who to hire.

But sadly, we all know the guys leading this thing don’t learn. Some would argue they do but not until it’s so blatantly obvious, even a kid would see it’s time for changes. But leaders can’t learn if they aren’t open to the idea that their time is up. Their day has passed. And they are so arrogant, they won’t learn the most obvious of lessons.

Why do I say they never learn? Look at the huge lessons that have been presented in the 26 seasons that make up this century so far:
  • Not making the playoffs in 16 of the 26 seasons this century. (2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2010,2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2024, 2025)
  • Our biggest rival - the hated egirls - have made the playoffs 8 more times this century than we have; they have won 20 playoff games (4 for us), won 3 NFC championships and 2 SBs. Instead of learning from the success our rivals, JJ and SJ smugly act as if they know better, foregoing serious FA and making stupid cap moves.
  • Jerry refuses to hire a great HC. Since Jimmy left, we’ve had one great HC and one decent one. Parcells was great but was near burnout. And JJ admitted hiring him only to get the stayjum passed. Big Mac was pretty good but also probably near the end. Gailey, Campo, Wade, Garrett and now Schotty? Those are not the hires of an organization driven to win a Lombardi.
  • The winning owners of the last 30 SBs all hired someone else to be their GM. Jerry is now at 83 the oldest GM in NFL history, and get this - hasn’t won a divisional playoff game since he was 53!
If your owner refuses to learn from all the above, he will never learn. Fans are sick of losing and underachieving. We want real change. But losing isn’t enough for Jerry Jones to see HE is the real and present problem that will not go away.

Since our owner won’t learn or change from losing over decades…There is only ONE lesson our owner and son will learn from:
LOSING MONEY.
The NFL is a cash cow, Jerry is rolling in money and it’s not changing anytime soon. Jerry in not going to change, he’s the owner GM and de facto HC and everyone else takes a back seat and to be hired you have to accept that and take your money. Jerry looks at the failures as bad breaks, bad luck because in his mind he has fielded championship caliber teams that came up short. There will be a few sacrifices at the altar of Jerry and we will all hear next season the team will be much better and be right there competing for a title. There’s only one way to win in Dallas and it’s Jerry’s way or the highway. Jerry is still trying to prove those SB in the 90s was all him and he thinks O is the answer and D is just his guys who the coaches just coach up. Nothing is changing and honestly they may make a SB but it will be in spite of what Jerry does.

This is it Bob... until Jerry hires a real HC and let's them do their job, we're all just hoping we win in spite of Jerry. Everything else is a waste of time.

Or at least gets a GM that knows how to find adequate talent. I think Schotty is fine enough as a HC. But we never have enough talent.

They will never lose money, the stands will never be empty. Unfortunately there are too many Cowboy fans that just don't seem to care about continued mediocrity. It really blows my mind until I remember here I am on the message board another year.

Even if Cowboys fans do stop turning up, the stadium is likely to be filled by other fans.

I don't think a boycott of merchandise would change anything. All these owners get rich just from the TV contracts.

I wish there was some legal action for some type of violation when it comes to intent. Is Jerry really trying to win or is he just taking advantage of the fanship to make money?

The NFL should have a policy that safeguards a franchise from being used as a cash cows without making a valid effort to do what it was intended for, compete to win.

However, any such rule would be very difficult or even impossible to enforce. it would take a decade of litigation.

The Cowboys are the ultimate example of a franchise with a completely split history.

In the first half of their existence, they were iconic, up there with the Lakers and Yankees. Their legacy centered around excellence and an unparalleled winning tradition.

In 1995 you could correctly claim that no team had been to more conference championship games and Super Bowls.

No team had won more Super Bowls at that point in NFL history.

Also, at that point in time, the Dallas Cowboys had the highest winning percentage of regular season games of all teams in the NFL.

There was no rebuttal strong enough to oppose the claim that the Cowboys were the best team in the NFL's long and storied history.

But Jerry Jones couldn't stand the fact that his head coach was receiving the credit usually attributed to a head coach but also to a GM.

Jerry had almost secretly appointed himself as the GM. It was never formally announced but when the media discovered this, they were all over Jerry.

That is because the world knew that the person making every football related decision was Jimmy Johnson. It was in his contract and it was obvious because he told us what he was going to do and why.

After winning the national college championship and recruiting 26 high school athletes that would eventually be drafted from 1990 to 1992, Jimmy Johnson could have coached anywhere in the NFL that he chose.

Jimmy chose the Cowboys because Jerry promised him the control he needed to make sure things were done exactly the way he wanted.

The one good thing thing over the past 30 years is that there are less and less of those annoying debates about who built that team.

Given Jimmy's previous accomplishments and Jerry's complete lack of credentials or experience, it is absolutely ludicrous to believe that Jerry had anything to do with the way that team was built and operated. And yet.......

So, after Jerry dismantled and neutered a dynasty that should have lasted three times longer, we have the revised legacy, the second half of the split

How would we describe it?

The Dallas Cowboys are a franchise that, to this day, act as if all those past Super Bowls are recent. Year in and year out they present their new team and even make comparisons to the teams of old.

"He reminds me of....." - Jerry Jones in reference to any player he is responsible for drafting or signing.

Compliments are no substitute for results. They are not the great players that formed the great teams guided by the first two great head coaches in Cowboys history.

These teams of the past 30 years are just hollow caricatures. The names constantly change even if some of the jersey numbers remain the same.

There are no Super Bowl seasons or iconic playoff games to be remembered and celebrated. As more and more of the "classic" Cowboys fans begin to depart, the memory of a legendary era continues to fade.

Great! Now I'm depressed! Thanks Jerry!

I guess discussion forums and boilermakers don't mix.

suck it up, buttercups.

"Why are you so negative?" I know how this crap ends. Perhaps in another 10 years or more, you will be able to see the big picture.

19.5 Billion dollar net worth says nobody can hurt his wallet......the interest alone would be ridiculous.

Hes untouchable
yup and try and buy land in DFW... Jerry is a landman now that piggy back is sealed away and untouchable..

Dallas Cowboys are a cash cow. To undo everything they have done to make it that would take forever.

I agree. It is up to the fan.
But one fan should not be critical of another fan buying merchandise or tickets. As it does not matter.
The tickets are already bought and paid for. There will always be someone buying tickets and hats and jerseys.

I rarely will buy anything. And in the last 6 years or so I bought a hat, as I needed a new one. A coffee mug I really liked,
And I bought a Pickens jersey, for a special reason.

This... he doesnt realize the defense Jimmy put on the field.. yes we won with the triplettes but that defense is why the triplettes won championships. He builds an offensive show the defense is just in the way..

The sad truth of the matter is fans have no power here. The bulk of Jerry's money comes from real estate, oil, gas, and other assets.
The Cowboys are just a toy for him at this point of his life.
There's the crux of the matter......"The Cowboys are just a toy for him at this point in his life."
Jerry can monetarily afford to entertain the idea that he's a competent football guy.
The Cowboys are literally a hobby for him. To hire a GM would be to take away his hobby, and that's not going to happen, win, lose, or draw. It is his hobby!

I agree jazz. merchandise is not a big deal one way or the other to Jerry. When Jerry 1st bought the Cowboys it was an investment. But now he has so much money, the Cowboys have simply become a hobby! A jersey or hat isn't going to change his hobby!
I have a Cowboy's hat because I wear hats. When they win I wear it, when they lose I don't wear it because I don't want to catch the flak. LOL
But Jerry doesn't care because it's not the money anymore, it's mostly just his beloved hobby.

Well, this board is a bit different. This is camaraderie
which is the main reason I’m here even if I never watched another cowboy game. I’d still follow the very entertaining colour commentary on the zone and I’d still be here for the camaraderie of it all.
So don’t feel bad about being here regardless ;)
