Will TY Hilton really help?

adding savvy vet WRs should help with at least half of the equation in dealing with cover two defenses which seem to be the death knell for our passing game, the QB half may still be a problem. It will be interesting to see if the savvy vets will be on the same page as Dak when making those reads.

Assuming he still has his speed he will help. He'd be our fastest WR for sure, a dependable vet that runs great routes and has the speed to take the top off a defense

+1

Dak has issues with ball placement, and these WRs have struggled being at the right location on schedule. Hilton runs good routes and can become a reliable target for Dak to trust.

If he has his speed, TY can be an X factor for this offense IMO

why not vet not having heavy snaps hes being asked to do will still have speed for limited reps./. see what DJ did to us in the TG Raider game last year,,hes 34 TY is 33 and in limited action they can go full speed on every route, he should be healthy and fresh, as long as hes coming in like Brown does, should be able to go full speed.

I think that eagle's game with 77 back, Washington has another game under his belt, TY gets some action sunday, and our OL might be improved as Whole As, we are better to Challenge the eagles.
Bet you wouldn't call our O-line whole As to their faces.

I wouldn't expect much out of him right away. Seems more like an insurance policy - remember Gallup getting injured late last season?

If something happened to one of our starters, does anyone want Tolbert to be the replacement? I'm glad to have Hilton, even if he's not what he used to be.
this 100%

We need depth, and he's good depth.

The fact that Hilton has been available all season makes you wonder if he still has anything left. It’s been a while since he’s played football. He’s 33 years old and has had a number of injuries. I’m somewhat skeptical he’s going to make much of a difference, but his reputation could draw coverage to him freeing up other receivers. We’ll see if he can make it the rest of the season healthy.

he choose to sit out most of the year. He wanted to spend time with his kids…

He also said he really didn’t miss football which makes you wonder why he even decided to come back. He had a pretty significant neck injury last season. I honestly think no one was that interested and neither was he in continuing his career. I guess he figured there’s not many games left in the season and he might have an opportunity at a ring.

I think that was why we signed Washington but after one game back apparently we felt we had to do something drastic, not a good sign of what the coaches think of Washington IMO

Shannon Sharpe made a great point about this signing the other day. He stated that TY wasn’t signed for a game, but for a play. He is a former pro bowler. He can help even if it’s just a key grab here and there to improve the Cowboys’ fortunes.

Speed would be nice but much like Peters he's a quality pro. Despite the lack of play time here, I expect fewer "miscommunications" when the ball is thrown his way.

Do you think TY Hilton will make a difference?

I think so. Brown draws a lot of single coverage, which helps teams zone or double Lamb and Gallup. Although Brown has played better than I expected he would as a third receiver, he still doesn't regularly beat third or fourth corners. Hilton has the savvy to do that even if his speed isn't what it used to be. The biggest question with him isn't ability but health, and he seems to be healthy right now.

As others have said he probably won’t get a high volume of catches but he fixes a problem our offense has been experiencing.

Problem 1: Dak throwing too picks against zone coverage.

A huge part of that is on Dak, but a contributing factor has been route running nous and our ability to adjust to disguised Zone coverage. A vet route runner like TY Hilton alleviates some of that issue and gives Dak a more reliable go to guy.

Problem 2: Passing in short yardage situation.

Zeke has been phenomenal picking up 1st downs but we’ve struggle to find a reliable pass option that can get open quickly. TY Hilton has that short-area quickness to run those Beasley type routes that can reliably get 1st downs.

Problem 3: Plays against cover 2 shells.

This is very similar to the first problem but TY Hilton’s speed and short area quickness are hugely beneficial on many of the common routes used to beat cover 2. Concepts like four vertical routes, a deep dig, or flat 7 are commonly used by teams to combat cover 2 but we really struggle with them because we don’t have the right type of receivers that excel in these routes. Ty Hilton changes that.

Washington has been a disappointment, hopefully Hilton can do better than that

The Washington signing was always a shaky proposition. I didn't have a problem with it for what we are paying, but I didn't like it from the standpoint that we just assumed he'd be our third receiver when he had not won that job in Pittsburgh. Hilton has been better than anything Washington has offered in his career, even when Hilton wasn't completely healthy. Would love for Washington to still step up, but I feel that is as likely to happen as Hilton being able to stay healthy for the rest of this season and postseason.

Yes. Even if he ran a 4.3 years ago...he' s still shifty and although he's slowed down he runs a mid 4.4 which is still good. Gallup hasn't fully recovered and the other guys we got are not explosive or are returning from injures which can rob you of explosiveness.
