You are assuming that he makes that kick in Washington.

Yeah its misleading that he missed 2 kicks in a row with that "laser rocket" leg of his.

Keep making excuses for his misses... I assure you... you will run out of excuses.

There was no excuse made -- I simply noted that his 70% sucks statistically but that there are forces making that % lower than it might be. And yes, I was assuming that he made the Wash kick and that red zone attempts would have gone through -- however with only one other miss this season from that range, that isn't an unreasonable assumption.

What is unreasonable is when posters say junk like "keep making excuses" when they are simply generating their own excuses to hate some one. Of course, when you've are working with so little upstairs, I can see how a simple he sucks vs. he's great dichotomy is all that can be handled.

I used to work at this restaurant in which the cook was stinking up the place. He didn't show up after drinking all night. He served under and overcooked food. And he was paid a good living.
Fortunately, the management didn't go along with that rationale that it was already paying him, so keep him.
The management didn't work with him. He was replaced. The food was better. Customers came back.

So what. There was a legit replacement there. Totally different case here.

:signmast:

Are Cowboys fans going to go away if he keeps missing? I didn't see the analogy working on that one. If there was a good kicker available, I think it's viable. There isn't...

Draw conclusions...

There probably is a good kicker out there. The problem is, you don't have time to bring them in and evaluate them. The season is almost over. If you guess wrong, you've ruined two kickers.

ATL had to sign Morten Andersen - Andersen is 46 years old and was out of the league last year.

If there were any guys out there that could kick they'd have jobs right now.

He's a proven kicker. Are there any proven kickers out there? No. Are there any unproven kickers who could do better than Vandy? Yes.

And flushed a lot of salary down the toilet.

Brilliant!

Also, there are possibly unproven QBs out there who could do better than Romo and an unproven OLB who could do better than Ware.

Your logic has reached a bit of a dead end son.

You're comparing quarterbacks and linebackers to kickers. quarterbacks have to learn an offense. Linebackers have to learn a defense. Kickers have to...well...KICK. My logic holds steady...

son.

So based on your logic, this is an easy job that anyone can do -- and we could simply go out and find an unproven guy and he'd do better than Vanderjagt's 70% this season.

Like I said -- possible yes. Likely. No.

How about his one? Is it possible that Vanderjagt, a proven NFL kicker, gets his mechanics together? Yes. Far more likely than your scenario as well.

Your are GM material, daughter.

I agree it is unlikely but then it is not unheard of for a team to go out and pick up a kicker this late in the year and get results. I think Vandy will get more time but if this continues then a change would not be out of the question.

If you actually read my posts, this is exactly what I'm saying. It's possible, and much more likely than you think.

And yes, it's much easier for a kicker to sign up for a team and perform his role than it is for a quarterback or linebacker to sign up for a team and perform their roles. Did I really need to say that?

Unheard of no. But given what is out there -- well, let's just say we've already had one VERY lucky turn of events regarding personnel -- I wouldn't hold my breath for another.

And you keep throwing out 70% for Vandy. 70% means nothing to me. Who couldn't make field goals if your team is up by 21 and there is no pressure? When you evaluate a kicker, you ask yourself.."Does he make the kicks under pressure?", and "did we lose the game because of that missed kick?"

Likely? Yeah. Last year was a great example of that likelihood.

I agree for the most part but then again I don't think Vandy chances are unlimited. He has to start making the kicks

A. See the 3000 posts previously on this board about Vandy being an outstanding pressure kicker. He missed one huge kick in his career. No kicker is 100%.

B. We have not lost a single game because of a Vandy miss. He missed two yesterday - outcome we won. He missed one against Tenn. We won. He missed on in Carolina. We won. He had one blocked against Wash -- even the biggest Vandy haters on this board don't blame him for that one.

Sure -- but I do think that when you have one of the NFL's best career FG guys you do need to give him some slack and allow him to get back in a rhythm. If this were Suisham, it would be a different story.

You forgot C.

C. His kicking could cost us. I just hope its not in playoffs. I would be non the happier if he was ONLY kicking PAT's and we were scoring enough to NOT NEED his kicks.
