Well, he is gone. Wasn’t his decision but I am sure he knew about it m. Why his agent wasn’t there. Likely ask him to take the pay cut and his agent said no. So he gone.

Haters or not he was a good player for us and will be missed for a time until we can find someone to take that spot.

Question is... How long? How long before we see improvement? You don’t think a rookie 1st round pick is coming in here and improving that slot immediately do you?

Dak had a few years working with what he has. Now he has at least 3 new WR. 1 is a gonna likely be a rookie and Hurns he has never worked with.

Even if Dez declined in play opposing teams accounted for him. They didn’t dismiss him the way they would T-Will. And T-Will had surgery so he may still not be 100% comfy running and cutting on the foot.

Could this have been a mistake?

I didn't want to part ways with Dez, but it MIGHT end up being the right decision. We won't be able to replace the Dez of 4 seasons ago, but we can easily replace the Dez of the past three seasons. I'm sure we'll draft a WR fairly early now, but I don't want it to be in the first round. What I'd now like to see is a trade back to pick up an additional pick so we can take a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round (probably 2nd depending on who is on the board). I still want the first 4-5 rounds to be defense heavy, but I don't think there's a doubt we'll take a WR, probably no lower than the 3rd round. We still have several good receivers, just not a dominant one. We will draft one that hopefully becomes that guy.

IMO the loss of Dez won't have that big of an impact compared to a healthy Smith or Dak looking competent out there.

No we aren't better. Long term, possibly but for many of the reasons you stated could make us worst. Maybe a slow start who knows. Not only that but a new OL piece will be added and possibly 2.

In my opinion if you're going to cut Dez and make the offense built around Dak then Witten also needs to go. Put an end to the prior era and start fresh.

That's very good, not GREAT. He's not going to get better over the next few years, though he could see an upswing this year if he's with the right team, system, QB.

But no one pays what he had on the books for the numbers above. This is a good business decision whether it makes the team better in 2018 or not.
