Will we be dead last in defense this season?

i mean they just spent a first, and paid one nearly 100 million dollars. they also had a 30 min debate about drafting another at 1. they're clearly willing, things just don't always break the way you need them to.
I hadn’t heard about drafting one in the first. Not saying it didn’t happen, I probably just missed it.

And yeah if that’s the case, I feel a lot better about it, but the real problem is refusing to add even a mid type FA like a Poona Ford.

You’re fully right that sometimes the draft doesn’t break a certain way, just don’t put yourself in that spot. They end up leaving it as a weakness instead of ‘overpaying’ as they see it for a legit FA.

Last year we were the 2nd worst defense in the league. We just spent our only premium pick on offense when there were a number of good DTs available. The board is clamoring to spend the rest of the picks....on offense. Jerry spent bottom dollar on a bunch of FA rejects.

Is no one else concerned by the thought of having to watch our defense get abused week after week after week?
Huge problems with the D rollout last Summer.

Zim was the AAgap wizard.

And…he never ran it

Big Mike likely hated it.

We saw a lot of basic D.

The pressure packages that DQ ran were gone.

This season, back to the jacked up Bend But Don’t Break that Marnelli cooked up.

I think we can be a 15-20 ranked D though.

If we have a ground game.

I was referring to Mazi. Probably easy to overlook since it hasn't panned out, but they were willing to address and invest. But ultimately, like you said I think it comes down to FA. Their hesitancy to really address issues with quality FA's places enormous pressure on the draft, and unfortunately even if you nail a draft, you're going to walk away with positions you couldn't address by virtue of only so many picks, along with other teams beating you to the punch. But yes, I'd love for them to really get a stud, not an attempt, but a flat out stud.

Doubt it

The coordinator is a good "bend, don't break" guy, those guys usually keep you in a game.
