He has only coached 1 season in Dallas. 13-3 was a great season and falling short in the playoff hurt but this is not the 1st time this team even Cowboy teams who were favored at the start of the season failing to make it to the SB. No doubt the ultimate goal is to win SB but going out and winning and competing at a high level is what the job is about if not then more coaches are failure than successful.

That is why prempted my comment with "If Wade Phillips were to retire today".

The OP is really asking us to come to a conclusion based on events that have not happened. That of course being how Wade Phillips does in the future, which is impossible to know, so one is forced to evaluate his present body of work.

Wade Phillips can go 13-3 in the Regular Season each year of his tenure, but if he doesn't win a Playoff Game, he will not be remembered as a winner.

This point is especially evident given the abundance of talent Wade Phillips enjoys.

I think Wade is a good football coach. Solid.

He did well during most of the regular season with the good talent he had.

But I have doubts that he's enough of a leader and a button-pusher to get this team over the hump in December and January. Some of it is on the players for sure. But I saw a coach last winter that just didn't seem to get it. His post-season speech was bewildering. "Elite Eight." Good grief.

Heck, even Norval Turner turned it up a notch late in the year, pushing his players and getting the Chargers farther than Marty got them. That was a different Norv than we've seen before.

Wade has one more year to learn this or he's gone, IMO.

Of course we'll remember him...even if he loses his first playoff game again this year and is fired...we'll remember him.

We'll never forget Campo either, will we?

We remember our Cowboys' Coaches.

The question isn't "will we remember him"....the question is "for what will he be remembered?"

After all is said and done, and he leaves when his contract runs out

will we remember him? say 5-10 years from now?

this has nothing to do w/ Prisco making up stuff that Wade should be looking over his shoulder, I don't believe that

He'll be remembered, yes, as a nice guy.
Other than that, as a coach with a team filled with player riches.
Who could endear himself to players but not breathe fire when needed.

He'll be remembered in the campo/gailey mold.
Definitely not in the tier occupied by Landry/Johnson.
