Williams and Pickens one year wonders?

Our organization deserves accolades for bringing both in. Probably our best off season acquisitions in years.

We actually have a top 5 RB this year currently 2nd in rushing. What a great signing. But the longer he stays on top the higher his contract is going to be.

Same goes for Pickens who I suspected would be a 1 year rental. Arguably our best WR tandem since 90’s with Irvin and Harper. True first round talent on both sides.

We saved millions in Cap space trading Parsons. The more success they have this season the higher the price. Get a deal done now. End of season will be too late or expensive.
 
Definitely kudos to the FO for these two moves in particular. Javonte is the type of RB Schotty likes to play on his Offense. If you look at UFA RBs ( i.e. Rico, Allgeier, Dobbins, Breece) for next offseason there should be some options available allowing Dallas to remain somewhat cheap at the position, also the draft.

Pickens has been elite and if they can re-sign this guy asap once the season ends. Jerry will get compensation if Pickens leaves, but I don't see Pickens leaving if the good vibes continue throughout the season.
 
Wouldn't be surprised you can't expect these guys to be great every year like this if they're a cowboys player the injury bug must hit them at some point

what are you talking about??? Rico got peanuts, and you are talking about a guy that could be top 3 back in the league this year as well as lead the league in rushing TDs, and you thn he will sign or need to sign for peanuts? smh
 
Pickens has the same agent as Parsons. Highly unlikely they work sth out.

Read today that the Agent wants 137M / 4 years for Pickens with 35 M per Year.

No one is paying that. Atleast not the Cowboys.
 
My guess is that Pickens is back for 2026, and Williams is gone.

For Williams I would think his stock could only go down at this point. Hes well on pace to establish himself as a 1000 yard rusher, just recently turned 25 and isnt exactly lacking style points in his spectacular year either. Unless he goes down with an injury or simply runs out of gas down the stretch hes probably looking at $10m + per year. The Cowboys have shown they are against investing the RB position in recent years and believe they can find bargains....between finding Rico and Williams back to back years they might just be right.

As long as the guaranteed money isnt too crazy it's not a big deal. Tee Higgins got 4/$115m with just $40m guaranteed. A similar deal for Pickens slightly inflated for a bump in the cap next year seems very reasonable.

You probably have to lose one of them in the offseason depending on the open market. Williams might be a 10 million back, where that would be way too much to spend at the position. Pickens next deal is probably in that 33-35 million range. You can only allocate so much to the offense.
 
FO have done a great job getting them both but history tells us they will do a terrible job of either keeping them at all or grossly overpaying to keep them.
 
Pickens is the real deal.

Williams is a good, solid back that breaks a lot of tackles for extra yards.

Serviceable RBs are easier to find than stud WRs, and they tend to wear out quicker with a hard running style like Williams.

It'd be nice to keep both, but Pickens is more important to sign in my opinion.

CeeDee got 4/$136M with $100M guaranteed. No way Pickens wants less than that. He'll be looking to exceed it since it's a year later and try to claim he was just as good as CeeDee when Lamb was hurt.

And I want some company to pay me six figures to taste test margaritas on the coast....doesnt mean its going to happen. Pickens is going to get paid, I dont doubt that one bit, but teams didn't want to beat out a future 3rd round pick just a few months ago. Now 7 weeks into the season teams are lining up to pay him $100M guaranteed? I just don't see it as all the concerns around Pickens in Pittsburgh surely haven't completely gone away.

Plus Pickens doesn't have the career numbers of a Lamb, and hes a true FA whereas the other top WRs getting paid to $100m guaranteed deals were all on rookie contracts/5th year options. I think him being in the actual last year of his contract matters more than fans realize. Not having that extra option year to manipulate the contract could limit teams wanting to put Pickens up there with the top 3 guys.
