Charles Haley calls Dak Prescott just another Joe

Dak Prescott reminds Charles Haley of just another Joe. As in Joe Montana, Haley’s teammate with the 49ers.

Dak reminds me of Joe,” Haley told Newy Scruggs of DFW’s NBC 5.

Haley heaps praise on the young quarterback. But the Hall of Fame linebacker/defensive end, who maintains a presence at the Cowboys’ training complex, admits he became annoyed with Prescott when, after a 4-1 start, Prescott said the Cowboys were “Tony’s team” in reference to Tony Romo. Romo, though, never got his job back as Prescott went 13-3.

The Cowboys now belong to Prescott, with Romo having retired.

“I tell him all the time, I say, ‘Man, this is your show. This is your rodeo,'” said Haley, who also was teammates with Hall of Fame quarterbacks Steve Young and Troy Aikman. “I told him that after game [five] when he was saying it was Romo’s show. I wanted to punch him in his chest. Hey, hold up. You’ve won four in a row. Then, you win five a row. Now walk out on the field before the game and say, ‘Who’s team is this?’ If he didn’t say, ‘My team’ real fast, I’ll punch him again. ‘My team.’ He’s got to realize he’s got to control everybody. Whether Romo would have came back or not, it’s about the confidence and believing that he was the man. That he was driving the bus. Then, that confidence will spill over and it did. When you listen to players talk they talk big about Dak, because he’s a man of character and a man of strength and a man of conviction.”

Charles Haley, is a great player... But let's bet honest, he's a g** d*** fool...

Hows he gonna tell anyone how to act in a locker room... Most of his former teammates do their best to avoid him.

Today's version of Charles Haley is a far cry from the crazy character who played for us back in the 90s. He has successfully transitioned himself from a seemingly hopeless head case to someone that many people look up to these days.

Once Charles realized that keeping himself medicated was the secret to overcoming his unpredictable bipolar tendencies, his life turned around in a most dramatic way. A good friend of mine was afflicted with that same disorder. The difference between that person and the one who eventually kept himself faithfully medicated was like night and day.

Far too many of us fail to comprehend the dramatic impact that bipolar disorder actually has upon those afflicted with it. He's a new person now and it's much to his credit that he has made that much needed transition. Yes, he's still outspoken, although infinitely more predictable than the nutcase he had been in his quite distant past. I'm happy for the man he's become.

I would rather Dez remind him of Jerry Rice.

The headline leading into that story is alarmingly deceptive and gives a tainted picture of what Haley is now. Scribes nowadays will headline almost anything for clicks. Of course, actually reading the content material gives an entirely different picture of the truth, so there's that to consider also.

Charles Haley actually afforded Dak a wonderful compliment in offering a comparison between Dak and Joe Montana. I'm definitely hoping Dak's long term success compares favorably to Joe's success as well. It would certainly serve the Cowboys well. ;)
