One of the (fewer every year <sigh>) things I remember from my business courses at college is that employees (in general) complain about their pay, but in reality, that's not what they really are concerned about - it's prestige, respect and such.
To be an NFL quarterback you have to have a burning desire to prove you're the "best". Seeing someone like, say, Mahomes get more money than you do despite not doing any better than you have done (a SB win and a SB loss) is galling. When he was going to SBs Wilson was all the rage, so to speak, now he's not. It's the "what have you done lately" situation. As ratings are a matter of opinion that isn't cut and dried, how else can a player get themselves back on top, as far as player discussions go?
Money. To be the highest paid NFL quarterback (or player overall) is one way to "prove" you're the best, if you get paid more than anybody else it must mean you're the "best", right?
Ego is what we're really dealing with here, money is just a hard and fast way to assuage one's ego....
