Looks like my boy will be cut by Oakland after all if he doesn't restructure his contract and take a pay cut.

If Dallas is going to pay someone a 7-8 million dollar contract to be a SOLBer, I prefer it be to this guy and not Spencer. If Dallas signs this guy and Dan Conner for depth, this team would be set at linebacker and they could afford to spend picks on the Dline which is in serious need of another pass rusher as well.

Yes I know Ryan was the DC in Cleveland when he got traded for a 3rd, but Wimbley has already proven himself to be a better pass rusher than Spencer. Lined up opposite from Ware, I think he could be a 10 sack guy.

Looking at the Raiders' cap challenge

Cornerback Stanford Routt was cut earlier this month. If Oakland does cut some more players, the candidates could include linebackers Kamerion Wimbley and Aaron Curry, defensive linemen John Henderson and Tommy Kelly and defensive back Michael Huff.

Will the Raiders franchise either safety Tyvon Branch or running back Michael Bush by Monday’s deadline, considering their salary-cap issues? I believe Branch has a better chance of sticking in Oakland, either via the franchise tag or as an unrestricted free agent. He fills a more immediate need than Bush, who is a backup in Oakland.

Huff and Wimbley would be some very nice pickups for us.

Sweet. I wanted him coming out of college. Unfortunately, he went to Cleveland before we picked, and we ended up with Bobby Carpenter.

I would love for him to join the Cowboys. $4-5 million per year would seem like a fair deal for both sides.

The Raiders picked a terrible year to not have any draft picks. They only have a 5th and 6th rounder as of now.

Ryan has had them both for one year. Up to him, I trust him over anyone on this board to say who is better. The Browns with Ryan as DC traded Wimbley.

I would rather have Spencer, better vs the run and in the pass.
Wimbley only had 6.5 sacks playing OLB under Ryan, I don't see much of a difference is the pass rushing side. I think Spencer is the better overall player but I will leave this one to Ryan.

How can a team so bad be in CAP hell.

Spencer has never put up double digit sacks, Wimbley has. Now I will say if his former DC doesn't want him than I will go with his opinion. However if he chose Spencer it is not because he is a better player but rather the player has some issue that you wouldn't want in your lockerroom.

Spencer is not good against the pass.

Not going to happen. Wimbley will want at least what Brooks in San Fran got. I would still sign him for 7 mil a year though since it seems that is what Spencer will get as well. Now if Wimbley wants D Ware money than I would go ahead and just draft someone.

Wimbley seems like a high character guy.

Wimbley's stats are near identical to Spencer's under Ryan's system. They have roughly the same stat numbers for this year as well.

For the career, Wimbley has been substantially better in terms of sacks (Spencer averages 4.3 per year while Wimbley averages 7.08).

I would say Wimbley has the edge as a pass rusher while Spencer has the edge at stopping the run. Overall, both are pretty equal in terms of ability and effectiveness.

In other words, there wouldn't be much of a drop off from Spencer to Wimbley. I like this option way better than some of the alternatives we have seen over the last few weeks.

ah yeah he is, he is one of the best covering SOLB

No he's not. I know it's nice to think he is but 115 QBR over last 3 seasons says otherwise.

Yeah thats what I'm saying. Comparing Wimbleys carrer sacks to Spencer isn't real fair. Wimbley had 11 sacks playing in a 4-3 DE his rookie year.
But like I siad IMO SPencer is the better overall 3-4 SOLB but I will leave it up to Ryan to decide.

what is the QBR and how does that refer to one player and not the entire defense
I'm just trying to understand how a OLB gets a quarter back rating

wimbley put up 11 his rookie year playing DE on a 4-3. Doesn't even compare what has he done in a 3-4, what has he done as a OLB.

I wouldn't say "one of the best", but average.

Spencer was targeted 19 times this year, and gave up 14 receptions, with 1 touchdown. His cover snaps/target was 10.9 which was good enough for 18th in the league out of 28 3-4 OLB.

Wimbley was targeted 16 times, and gave up 11 catches, 0 touchdowns and 1 interception. His cover/snaps target was 15.0, good enough for 3rd out of 38 4-3 OLB.

alot can change stats like those, like who your playing, what other players are doing, was it his guy to cover or was it in his direction.

Free agent OLB Anthony Spencer dropped into coverage twice as many times as DeMarcus Ware last season, according to Pro Football Focus. "A good football player can impact a game in a lot more ways than just how many sacks he has," said executive VP Stephen Jones
