Anyone d/l the release candidate yet? ? Concerns/Compliments?

Any reason why I shouldn't take it for a spin on a non-primary machine?

Shrug, I haven't seen it. I know this Windows admin that is using it and he said he hasn't had to many problems with it.

I installed it at home on my test pc and it worked just fine.

On the one hand it's swell that M$ allows users to use it for a yr or so, but alternatively it's almost as if they are utilizing the general public as beta testers. Probably a fair trade off so long as you're not trying it out on our vital pc.

Everything i've heard is pretty positive about, so i'm looking forward to seeing for meself.

The new release installed any problems other than I installed it on the wrong drive and when I pulled the other drive back in XP came back up. :laugh2:

I need to wipe both drives and do a reinstall.

When does it come out?

I need to buy a new laptop since I gave away my old laptop and the borg is taking away my really cool HP laptop and replacing it with some internal borg laptop.

I don't like vista all that much...and I don't want to pay to downgrade to WinXP.

It's available as of yesterday for mass distribution and you can use it free till June 2010. Supposed to be an easy upgrade w Vista, not XP. I'm downloading it Friday evening(party!) here on this pc.

The official version not a beta
I'm ok with a beta version...

Remember I work(ed) for a software dev company. RC's are pretty close to the real thing.

Interesting how quickly they seem to want to ditch Vista.

Actually, two and a half years is a pretty long span for MS to go without releasing a new version.

Do you ever get anything right?

I left windows 7 RC d/l here at the office last night after i realized it was takin hrs...came in this am to install and i get this when i try to launch the file:

7100.0.090421-1700_x86fre_client_en-us_retail_ultimate-grc1culfrer_en_dvd.iso

i think this might just be a d/l manager prgm, not sure but i'm unable to open it. stuck here. .iso file and pc doesn't know how to open it.

any non-humorous suggestions? tanks.

Weird that they'd have an .iso file as the download file.

Oops. As a last resort in these matters it's a good idea to read the instructions...found this there

Step 2: Create an installation DVD
Collapse all
How to create an installation DVD

The RC download is an ISO file, which you'll need to burn onto a blank disc before you can install it. To do that, you'll need to use software designed for burning ISO files.

In addition to commercial ISO burning software, there are free programs such as ISOBuster and Active ISO Burner. To find one, go to a site such as Download.com or Tucows and search for "ISO," "DVD," and "burn".

Follow the instructions that came with your program to create a Windows 7 RC installation disc.
