Wingo will now host all three days of the annual NFL Draft telecast on ESPN, beginning with the 2017 event April 27-29 in Philadelphia. He will also continue to be the face of ESPN’s daily year-round pro football coverage on NFL Live the show he has hosted since its inception in 2003, NFL Insiders: Sunday Edition, NFL Primetime, and more. Wingo, who joined ESPN in 1997, hosts coverage from key NFL events throughout the year, including Super Bowl, Pro Bowl and NFL Draft.

Said Wingo: “The draft is the only ‘real’ reality TV show there is. No one has any idea what’s going to happen which makes it so fun. When ESPN first asked about televising the draft, the NFL said, ‘Why would you want to do that?’ One of the reasons that made the draft a great watch was Chris Berman. His insight and humor made it so much more than just people reading names. I’m honored to follow in his footsteps.”

Wow, this is kinda big news. Still won't watch ESPN, but at least I'll know in the back of my head that that disgusting windbag on the other network isn't embarrassing himself and hitting on his interns during the breaks anymore. That's a plus.

Good to hear. I preferred NFLN over ESPN due to Berman's awfulness.

While I commend Goodell for changing the format of the draft, they still forget what made the draft so popular.

For starters, NYC is the only place to hold the draft. That's where you are going to get the widest variety of fans and quite frankly the NFL owes it to the diehard fans that showed up year-after-year and went to NYC to watch 2 days of the draft. And whether anybody likes it or not, there's something about a NYC audience that makes for great television. You can't replicate that anywhere else.

But, the other issue was the element of surprise. ESPN really ruined that and started to tip off Berman so he could make it look like he knew something others didn't (what an ego).

The NFLN show had more along the lines of what the old ESPN drafts used to be. Serious coverage. I like listening to Mayock quite a bit. Kiper played a large role in making the draft what it is today, but I cannot reconcile his analysis and trying to act like a scout when he simply doesn't not have the talent nor experience to what a real scout is like Mayock.

Where NFLN falls short is that the old ESPN coverage with Dr. Z was great because they were unafraid to rip perceived bad picks to shreds. That served the purpose of making for good TV, but also getting *more* fans to believe that their team's picks weren't always that good.

These days announcers are too afraid to rip a pick to shreds and now most fans at the draft will politely clap for any crummy pick.

THIS was a big part of what the NFL draft was and what made it so interesting.

It's hilarious because even Pete Rozelle is laughing at the picks and how the fans and the analysts are going to go nuts.

Now they are too afraid to rip somebody and be proven wrong or upset some personnel guy that they used as an anonymous source.

I liked the old 2 day marathon drafts. I despise the round of retired players announcing picks. I really hate the fans announcing picks. I can't stand the puff-pieces that take time away from player-highlight time. It seems like the coverage isn't about drafting players anymore, but rather a desperate attempt to get females to watch the show.

Ok, rant over...

Thank God for the internet, and especially the guys on this site that post video links and scouting reports when our picks come in!

Amen. That's exactly what it is. An emasculation of the draft for feelz. I hate it all. Bring back the weekend draft and let the Sallys go shop or something if it's too long.

Yeah Mayock's like a scout. Except he's never been a scout and doesn't have half the experience evaluating the draft as Kiper. You listen to him at the combine and it's like he's just starting to know everyone. He's a fraud fake Philly puke they put in a Mel Kiper costume when the NFLN decided to get in on the draft craze Kiper created.

I watch and record both the ESPN and NFLNw programs.

All it require is to push the red button, so why not

Btw, like most of us, Trey Wingo has good confidence in Dak going forward.

But while turning page he did say last week that over the last 6-8 years that he's player, Romo was the most underappreciated player in the entire league.
So he has my vote on both his take on Dak and Tony:flagwave:
