Wireless Routers

I will be getting a wireless router again soon to add another PC to my home network. The old wireless router I had was a Linksys wireless G. It had issues and would drop the connection unless you were in close proximity. I realize that now things have improved over the past few years however.

What I am trying to find out is should I get the Linksys N router or the D-Link? I want the fastest connection as well as decent distance. I don't currently have a huge house so it wouldn't be unrealistically far. I heard that the new D-Links have the 2.0 Draft Cert but not sure if that will become the future or not. Either way I have never used a D-Link and have heard that they are a little more difficult to set up versus the Linksys. For security, I usually turn of SSID broadcast and make it WEP enabled.

Any thoughts?

I have always used Linksys without any problems.

Netgear is about the best home wireless routers out.

Very simple to setup and turn on sercurity.

ACL is easy to manage along w/ DHCP

Very good products.

Get one that does all B and G and N.

If you have trouble setting it up. PM Yeager. He is good @ helping everyone out like that. :p:

This is the D-Link model I currently own.

I haven't had any problems with it. I have used Linksys in the past as well and they work just fine also. I believe these things are getting to a point that one will work just as well as another. As far as set up, both D-Link and Linksys are easy and have setup disks. Just don't go to a no-name brand or you'll end up with something that has to be done manually and won't be much fun.

Netgear also makes good networking equipment as Dallas mentioned.

People actually use those disks? :laugh1:

I had a terrible experience with Linkysis.

My netgear router is easy to use, set up fast and easy and error free for 2 years.

I've been using Linksys for last 8 years or so (802.11B & 802.11G models) and never had any problems. Setup is a piece of cake.
