Speaking of proud, Staubach said it’s a fun time to be associated with the Cowboys once again, especially after a 12-4 season that included a playoff run.
Staubach said there is a definite buzz in Dallas about the team.
“Oh yeah, there’s no question about it,” Staubach said of the excitement. “In the ’90s, it was a lot of fun to go to work every day, watching the Cowboys win. Now, it looks like we’re headed there again. It makes a big difference.”
Staubach has always been a huge supporter of Tony Romo, even when it wasn’t a popular national opinion. Obviously that tune hasn’t changed a bit.
“I’m just mystified that we’re not all Tony Romo supporters,” Staubach said. “He’s a fantastic football player. He needs some good people around him like we all do in life. He’s a winning, franchise quarterback.”
While the pressure to win might be a little higher this year for the Cowboys, coming off their successful 2014 campaign, Staubach said the target on the team’s back really never changes.

I mean I agree, but I'm fairly certain Roger threw his support behind He Who Will Get Me Banned, Qcar.

Provided injuries aren't comparable to what we experienced a couple of years back, I don't think it's unrealistic to venture a guess that a deep playoff run is quite possible in 2015. Roger senses it, you sense it and so do I.

I don't know, Rog, we seem to be missing one key component of those 1990s teams.

How could anyone not love Rodger Staubach. He and Irvin are the biggest Cowboys' homers in the national spotlight, but no one hates on Captain America for his homerism.

Its the Oline that will make Romo a superbowl winner. We've seen Romo with a bad line and while a great (in my opinion) QB, he cant take us there alone. He needs a hall of fame type line to get us there. Aikman had the hall of fame type Oline he needed. and got us there with a great running game that this Oline will provide as well. (read we dont need AP,just had to throw that in there). Protect the QB, open holes for the RB. Thats the offensive key to getting to the superbowl. Now can the D provide the Superbowl run type plays we need to compliment the Superbowl run type offense we hope we have.

On a much different note, Roger had this to say about the Hardy signing:

What goes on in the locker room is very important and how players relate to each other. I wouldn't really enjoy being in the locker room with someone I knew was a domestic violence person. That's how I feel. Today you know more about the personal lives of players. Back in the old days, there were some issues. But we never really had a domestic violence, smoking marijuana or ... I'm sure it happened though, we just didn't know about it. I would have really had a hard time with a teammate that you look at as a courageous, tough guy on the football field ... to abuse a women in any shape or form, there's just no excuse for it.

Good find. Here's the first part of the excerpt for those that don't click through:

Well, it depends on getting a chance to understand the red flags ... like the Hardy situation. Charlotte Jones is fantastic. She's involved with the NFL on the committees. I think she had a hand in trying to understand that this guy deserves a second chance. I don't have any tolerance toward domestic violence. If I was making the decision, it probably wouldn't have been good for the Cowboys. Or I would have understood how they went about it. I just have confidence. I like Jason Garrett a lot. And Stephen Jones is real involved, the family. I think they're trying to make the right decisions and also get creative and take some chances. Those are tough calls.

Roger Staubach to me is as close to as perfect a person as one could ever expect to find. I respect his opinion more than any other Cowboy that has ever been. His comment about second chances is key- he was never blind to what was going on around him. He watched Duane Thomas destroy what could have been a HOF career; and Hollywood Henderson do the same. He was one of the key people in helping Bob Hayes come back from his drug problems.

Several things about that.

1) Roger never played on a team without a pass rush. He had embarrassingly good defenses supporting him. So I would guess he would undervalue that a little. Desperation sometimes makes teams take chances. It is nice and all he would never allow it, but he is speaking from a totally different perspective.
2) He also played with child molesters and drug addicts. He states he didn't know. I find that hard to believe since even fans knew, a little after the fact of course, but it is not like he played with boy scouts either.

well coming from you this is no surprise. And things were much better covered up 40+ years ago but you wouldn't know anything about that, would you?
