With 3 TO’s in his pocket Garret should have punted

In an alternate universe where we punted and never got the ball back, you start a thread very similar to this blaming Garrett for punting

Spot on. The reality is that had Dak thrown a better pass, we pick up the first down. That ball to Thompson (or Hurns, I can't remember which) looked like the 2nd 4th down pass from Ryan to Julio at the end of their game - neither had any hope of being completed.

Three timeouts and a two minute warning ...

You punt the rock deep and make Carolina play ... then hopefully you force punt and get the ball in Austin’s hands somewhere around the 50.

Yes we got the ball back eventually but on our 20. If

I mean let’s stop this lying to ourselves Jason Garret never belonged in the NFL. He lived off that TGivimg miracle for years.

I don’t feel the fire I once had for the team an Garret is a huge reason.

I was told going on 4th was the new craze . I heard it here, I heard passive is for losers and aggressive is for winners. I guess now the narrative has change.....lol what tells you we was getting the ball back? If we didn't stop them and they ran the clock out. You'd be *****ing he should've gone for it....lol

i would have punted too because it was 4th & 10 and our 4th Round Compensatory Pick QB cant throw it past that mark on target.

Maybe the Defense could have forced a fumble in their Redzone so atleast Zeke could maybe run it in.

Still even at that Point i would have no hope for the Cowboys to get a TD + 2pt Conversion.

Or maybe they run the clock out and we never get a shot

Dude youre second guessing him going for it (when hes been criticized his whole coaching tenure for having no balls), when we know the outcome either way

The QB sucks. The receivers suck. The coach sucks.

We couldve got the ball at carolina’s 10, and we wouldnt have scored
We wouldn't have won anyway but Garrett doesn't help this team out at all. When he decided to go for it I said "well that's a Garrett move." Just a complete dumb coaching move. The defense is playing well and you go for it. In any other year when the defense is bad he would have punted.

But they didn't run the clock out. They punted back to us, only instead of punting to us from their 10 they punted to us from mid-field. Punting was the thing to do.

I would have punted in that situation too. Everything about that situation said to punt.

  • Had 3 timeouts and the 2 minute warning
  • defense was playing well
  • punter who can pin the ball deep
  • offense that was anemic on 3rd down conversions
  • 10 yard to go for the 1st down with a struggling offense against a good defense
  • QB playing horrible who was inaccurate as can be
We needed to punt there, trust the defense to make a stop and hopefully get a short field for the offense with a fresh set of downs. If the defense was getting gashed or if it were 4th and short with an increased odds of converting then maybe you go for it, but the game situation certainly pointed to punting being the best option at the time.

That said, I doubt the team would have scored anyway even if they got the ball back.

Until they run the clock out....lok

Because they felt no urgency in getting a 1st, pinned deep and knowing we'd get favorable field position, they get more aggressive for a first

Pretty much this. He was damned no matter what decision he made at this point, unless we somehow managed to come back & win...though even then...he'd be damned. Team played pretty bad yesterday. Let's just leave it at that & move on to the next game.

This is my favorite part about Garrett. He does the right things at the wrong times. When our offense is clicking and has played well he will put the game in the defense's hands and we lose. Now when our offense looks like absolute dog **** he wants them to convert a 4th & 10 when our defense was playing pretty good. I don't understand what he's thinking. I swear he does stuff just to troll us.

I disagree. You get two shots at scoring as opposed to one. I agreed with the decision at the time and still do. Although your option isn't a bad one either...there is no guarantee you stop them but there is a guarantee you get a shot on 4th down.

I'll blame Garrett for a lot of issues in yesterday's game. He was responsible for the team being completely unprepared. But I will never, ever fault a coach for being aggressive on fourth down. I totally would have gone for it there (and wrote that in the game thread).

However the play call was horrid. I would have called a screen pass. The Carolina defensive line were teeing off and they were blitzing 6.
