With a just-signed free agent kicker, how close is field goal range?

I've never seen anything of this guy, so I wonder. Normally if the field goal is of about 55 yards or less, it's considered field goal range, though somewhat longer isn't impossible. However, not all kickers are the same. Have they been able to determine approximately from what distance this kicker is reliable?
Do they use tees for fgs in the CFL?

No problem . We go for it on most 4th downs anyway. Lol

Sure they have and you could too, if you knew how to google.

If this kicker is perfect Sunday then time to get of rid of fassells pet project washed up kicker…

is this a pro sports team or a pop Warner team…jeesh.
Kickers that can make 80% of their kicks aren't washed up.

When you go to a football game at the stadium next time watch the field-goal kicker do his practice kicks. You’ll notice something. NFL kickers when they’re doing their warm-up kicks before the game never miss. They’ll do cakes anywhere from about 35 yards out to 60 yards out. They make 100% of them. It’s the pressure of the game that causes them to miss. If I was looking for a kicker I would look for somebody who has ice running through their veins first before their actual leg.

I'm surprised that he's not the 'starting' kicker somewhere. He seemed steady when he was on the team before and he had a solid career in the CFL.

He shoiuld have got the Rams job. He beat out the 7th round draft choice in camp competition statistically. It was a stupid mistake by McVey, and he had to release his draft pick 6 or 7 games into the season.

Dumb, becasue he was losing games.

Lirim won't be making you jump up and down with 62 yard walk off winning FGs. But you won't be throwing bricks at your TV because he missed a 32 yard gimmee.

With the condition of our team right now with health issues, especially on defence, we need a team that can consistently convert on all its points. We will play close games with this offence, and converting 3 point opportunties will play a big part in our season.

We are not a team that will run away from the competition with 40 and 50 burger games.

No, and one thing you get with a kicker out of the CFL is considerable experience kicker in the frozen tundra in heavy sidewinds.

Up here we train kickers not to be 60 yard kickers. We train them to kick in adverse weather conditions because we only have two indoor stadiums in the entire nation.

Lirim is not going to make you think he is the second coming of Justin Tucker. But you may find him much more palatable becuase he will make the kicks you expect an NFL kicker to make.

FYi for everyone. Greg has missed (5) PATs in two years. This year he has missed from 61 yards, 51 yards, 43 yards and 31 yards. Last year he missed one from 40-49 and (6) FGs from 50 and longer.

He is a high 70's to low 80's FG kicker right now in his career.

A PAT is 33 yards from the FG posts, and add in the setback kickers have from the line of scirmmage we are talking about 35-37 yards of flight through the air. So he has missed his fair share of 33 yarders. This last stat is not a strength or mechanical thing. It is purely concentration and focus.

It's go for it on 4th down every time unless it's like 4th and 15+ from inside the 30. If it's say 4th and 18 from the 37, we can always put Dak out there and if he doesn't find someone open he can pooch punt.

Thanks for the intel !

Bottom line its more important to have a guy who will not miss XP's and will hit everything up to say 45 yds or so over a guy that can hit at 60 but is a serious risk to miss the easy kicks.

You can never truly trust a kicker, so every FG at any yardage is a roll of the dice.

Efren Herrera might have something to say about that! :star:
