Do we pick up another Tackle as a back up? I do not see why- if we wanted a veteran backup fabini was good for both sides. we now have The Hotel and Colombo as starters, with McQ as primary backup and Davis as emergency backup. Proctor and Berger as guard backups. davis and Kosier as guard starters. that is 8. So we can find a backup center, or draft one, and that would pretty much be it. We have 4 guards, 3 tackles; one center. the center can play guard; one of the guards can play tackle. Backup center is really the only need. Almost forgot: Kosier has played tackle as well.

I would think a backup center....is there one available?

Better yet if we can find a center that can play other positions on the Oline.

right now I think I would look at drafting a center on the second day. And develope him. Proctor was working on learning to be a center- if he is progressing maybe we do not need to draft one. Every slot we can save on the O line can be used elsewhere- like at LB or D line.

Joe Berger, a pickup ufa from the Dolphins, is a OG/C.

Exactly.

Where's that late round Center/Tackle combo hiding? Do they even make those?

Prospect Profiles
Joe Berger Position: Guard/Offensive Tackle
berger_joe.jpg
College: Michigan Tech Height: 6-5 Weight: 303 Hometown: Newaygo, Mich.
Analysis | Injury Report | Agility | High School | Personal
OVERVIEW

Berger is regarded as the premier trap blocker in the small college ranks. He was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2003 and 2004. The first player in school history to ever participate in the NFL Scouting Combine, he also was the first Husky to ever earn American Football Coaches Association All-America honors. Berger was an All-Western Waterways Activities Conference selection and team captain as a senior at Newaygo (Mich.) High School. The two-way lineman registered 238 tackles and an interception in two seasons of varsity football. He also earned Academic all-state honorable mention as a senior.
Berger would earn Academic All-GLIAC honors in each of his four seasons at Michigan Tech. He also garnered CoSIDA Academic all-district honors in his final two seasons. He started three games at offensive left tackle in 2001. He shifted to right tackle in 2002, starting eight contests. He went on to earn All-America honors in both 2003 and 2004 at the right tackle position.
ANALYSIS

Positives: Superb position finesse-type blocker whose quickness off the snap and trap-blocking ability could see him shift inside at the pro level … Comes off the ball decisively, using that quickness to easily gain initial position … Uses his arms well to wall-off and is a very aggressive finisher … Has the agility and play anticipation skills to pull and trap … Has the speed to contain linebackers up field … Shows the nimble feet to engage and sustain contact on the move … Keeps his arms extended properly in pass protection and has the mobility and balance to adjust to the edge rush. Negatives Not explosive in his blocks, rather preferring to finesse his defender … Needs to be more physical on initial contact … Has problems adjusting to the pass rusher's counter moves … Has to improve his hand punch technique and re-direct better when performing in-line blocking … Can be rocked back by the surge, as he tends to lean into the more physical defenders.
INJURY REPORT

No injuries reported. AGILITY

Combine: 5.18 in the 40-yard dash … 3.04 20-yard dash … 1.84 10-yard dash … 4.62 20-yard shuttle … 7.77 three-cone drill … 27-inch vertical jump … 8-foot broad jump … Bench pressed 225 pounds 30 times … 32 1/8-inch arm length … 9-inch hands.
HIGH SCHOOL

Attended Newaygo (Mich.) High School, playing football for coach Mark Puff … All-Western Waterways Activities Conference selection and served as team captain as a senior … Made 238 tackles and an interception in two seasons of varsity football … Academic all-state honorable mention as a senior. PERSONAL

Mechanical Engineering major, earning numerous academic honors with a 3.73 grade point average … Son of David and Debra Berger … Born May 25, 1982, in Fremont, Mich. Copyright NFLDraftScout.com, Powered by The Sports Xchange

We'll definitely pick up an OG/C and a T in the draft. I don't guess there's any need for any free agents at this point.

I'd like to see at least a 4th round talent level tackle taken to take over for Flo next year. Pardon me for not wanting to put all the eggs in the McQ basket.

I could see us spending a second day pick on a developmental OT, sorta like what we should have done with Petitti. Draft a guy and let me sit for most of the first year.

I don't see us drafting an o-lineman until day 2 at this point.

You may not want to put all your eggs in McQ's basket but I'm betting he's our swing tackle next year and the likely replacement for Adams provided we do not resign him-- which I'm guessing we won't.

me i'd like to see another vet tackle brought in. fabini was on his last wheel. his body is beat down. but another type player as fabini wouldnt hurt. a older established vet not looking to start but wanting to matter to a team.

It amazes that people are so high on this kid without seeing him in more than just a series or two. I typically like to see someone play before betting the health of the franchise QB on them.

Give me a Doug Free or an Adam Koets in the 4th.

Hey, I have no issue with taking a 2nd day tackle.

i dont think anybody has a problem with taking a tackle in the last rounds. but me, i'd rather the guy show something before feeling comfortable. i think people get too comfortable with bargains, and end up wondering what went wrong when it doesnt fall into place.

I know...Maybe its the pirate logo, maybe it's the Jeff Garcia signing, but Satele just seems like a better fit in Tampa Bay...
