With today's game now being an official, "Win or go home" game...

today if we lost we were eliminated so yes it was . Anyone who says anything else is just being silly

Philly could have lost and we would've still been alive, not silly at all. Maybe Philly was loose because the game meant nothing. You can't go back in time and change the meaning after you already know the results.

It's only an official win-or-go-home game in hindsight. It wasn't when we played it.

Today's scenario is a quintessential example of why the bogusly concocted elimination game metric is complete garbage - unlike winning or losing a playoff game which is bulletproof from fairytale hindsight, interpretation, spin or a 7 hour time difference.

Well, if we would have lost to the Skins.......our record would be 7-8..........Philly beat the Bears and their record is now 9-6..............thats a two game lead with 1 game left, so we would be officially eliminated right now if we would have lost to the Skins.

So how is that not an "elimination game"?

People need to give these Romo threads a rest. He's our best chance to win but he's also not the same QB he was a few short years ago. Anyone that has watched him play from day 1 and is being honest with himself can see that his skills have declined. The INT was a horrible throw and the deep ball to Williams was woefully underthrown. Ironically, that helped us because it took more time off the clock but he doesn't have the arm or mobility. Maybe it's his back but his decline is obvious.

No they don't. The guy takes more crap than any player in the NFL. He just led the team on a game-winning drive, on the road, against a division opponent, and kept the season alive. This is a Cowboys message board. This is where fans talk about stuff like this. Romo gets trashed by the media and his own fans constantly. The guy has 31 TD and only 10 Ints and you would think he sucks if you read half of the stuff around here or ESPN. You know a player is pretty damn good when he has over a 3 to 1 TD/INT ratio and people can't stop talking about his declining skills. I'm just enjoying this win and, personally, I can't get enough of these threads!

Tony thought that it had the quality of a win or go home game, he didn't seem upset by the concept.

"Today we felt like we were playing for everything,'' Romo said. "Next week will be the same thing. So we'll go do it again.

"This was as good a win as we've had, trailing by (nine points) in the fourth quarter. It felt like an elimination game. We knew we needed to win this football game, as a playoff game."

Well said.

As for win-or-go home, there is no official definition, and there are no statistics kept on either teams or quarterbacks in such games. IOW, if you want to see a list of all teams'/QB's performances in these games, you'll need to make one yourself.

Going by the definition that the team that lost had to know ahead of time that this loss would eliminate them, then this game doesn't qualify as "win-or-go-home." So if the Cowboys had lost, their win-or-go-home record would not have changed, and because that loss (combined with Philly's win) would have made next week's game irrelevant, a Dallas loss yesterday would have guaranteed that their win-or-go-home record could not have changed this year. They would not have been good enough to play in such a game.

The only teams that have win-or-go-home games are teams on the bubble, and the trend has been for Dallas to be the weaker of the two bubble teams in the match-up.

To me, it's kind of a ridiculous, made up stat to specifically make Romo look bad, but since it's there, and people on the talk shows keep wanting to bring it up, might as well.

bingo. all regular season games are equal.

I listened to 1300 AM radio this morning (Tiki Barber and whoever). All they talked about was Romo, the good and the bad.
Tiki basically called him a choker and said he needs to be more clutch like yesterday. The co-host then called him out and pointed out that Romo is 2nd in 4th quarter game winning drive comebacks since 2006. Tiki's counter you ask, what about games that mean something......

So frustrating. No long conversation about Stafford losing yesterday, the Saints losing, Flacco and the Ravens getting spanked, etc.

Romo: 'For us, it’s just you have to have a stronger belief in yourself than the doubt of other people. I think our football team has that.'

Another useless stat that means absolutely nothing. The media now days needs to have these to fill the tv / radio slots, internet sites / blogs. Or else what would they over analyze. Do you ever hear them say any positive stats when they bring this up, probably not.

Sacks, which is useful, weren't kept as an official stat until 1983 or somewhere around there. If you go back through time, Deacon jones claims he's the real all time sack leader [would be hard to argue against that]. If you could go back and look at the stats, see what thes stats are, it could be amazing. Now not every game has film, or records these, but would the stats themselves show it. Wouldn't be recorded as a sack, but a tackle for a loss, on a running play by a QB.

So if you could go back and look at many other QB's throughout history, what's their record in "win or go home games', then compare. And an easier stat to find than sacks.
How many times Vikings lose the SB, playoff games, and wasn't Tarkington the QB, how about Roman Gabriel with the Rams. Even our own Danny White.
Pick most any QB, I'm sure you can say a higher % fall right in there with Romo, and only a small % that don't.
