From an ESPN post:

"You see New England with all the different tight ends looks that they did," Witten said. "I think that just puts pressure on the defense. That's something we get by having John Phillips in the game. Whatever he's asked, he does it. He's just a right kind of guy. You need more guys like that on your team. I know it makes my job easier, and it makes it easier on Tony (Romo) because he knows exactly where guys like that are going to be."

If I were a media guy, I would interpret this as Witten taking a shot at MartyB.

Knowing Witten's personality, I don't think it was anything except a compliment towards Phillips, and not a shot at Marty B, but Marty B was definitely not the kind of guy you knew was going to just keep his head down and do his job, which he made obvious while he was here.

RKG coach speak that to me is irrelevant. All I want to know is if the person can play football.

I don't think it's a direct shot but if you go back and watch HK from Bennett's rookie season, Witten was on his *** quite a bit. Probably trying to give him a taste of rookie life but I'd bet anything that Bennett's unreceptive nature turned Witten off and he probably doesn't care for the guy at all as far as a football player goes.

I only watched a couple episodes of that series. Bennett was an ***.

I'm concerned we have the WKG at HC.....

Yeah, media guys do that. Won't surprise me a bit to see it on NFLN, ESPN and the like, presented with that twist.

Me, I take Witten at his word. I'm sure it was meant as a straight forward, sincere compliment... intended to be encouraging of and supportive of fellow TE John Phillips. Nothing more sinister at work than that, IMO.

Why? Because Jason Witten is the epitome of what RKG stands for.

I've largely withheld replying to some of your more negative posts so far, but c'mon... are you really as jaded as you present yourself to be on these boards? Man, I hope some of it is just an act.

Optimism and positivity not allowed until the Cowboys, one and all, prove themselves worthy to think and speak in such terms? Really?!! Seems overly harsh to me.

Lighten up, if at all possible. Just a suggestion. Sorry if preachy, but...

You, too? Don't agree with ya on this, CM, but I give your opinion some credence because I think you've earned it.

Hate to see the nail-on-the-head agreement with the quote you replied to... but, again, okay. Maybe I'm the one who's off base in believing there are lots of good signs to be seen under Jason Garrett's head coaching leadership, all of which give me hope for the Cowboys future, but I don't think he's wrong for the team.

For the record, I think "RKG" may get overused, but I like the intended significance of the acronym, and the effort given to find such types of players.

Re-Watch the dolphins game....where witten ran into everybody on the sideline...you clearly hear him say

"Get the **** back!!!" with intensity....

For the camera hes a nice guy, and I am sure over all he is too...but if pissed off behind closed doors he will go off...

Remember the report a while back...when Garret got mad at a false start in practice?? He told Witten to come to the bench...and sent Marty B in...he told Marty B to get his *** back to the bench, he ain't coming out.

He has fire, and attitude....you don't have to carry on like TO to be known as such

I wouldn't read too far into anything Witten says, he's just one of those "class act" trying to avoid any media attention and that's something that's so admirable about him.
He might not even truly believe that Phillips is the "right kind of guy" but hell freezes over before Witten takes a shot at a teammate.

That's a good point. People jumped all over the Bennett comment because they took it as a veiled shot at Romo through his support of Eli. This should be seen the same way. Of course, since we hate Marty B, we don't care if Witten is saying he's not the right kind of guy and wasn't where he was supposed to be.

The things Witten says about Phillips here, though, are some of the reasons I do feel we'll be better off with Phillips in the No. 2 role. Bennett is superior athletically; Phillips is superior in understanding how to play his position.

As much as I want it to be true the Phillips can bring a dimension like NE has, I have to ask, if that is the case why wasn't he our#2 last year? If that is the case why were we after Kellen Davis so hard?

Yeah but can he play football? The reports out of minicamps were not too glowing for him.

Dallas doesn't need that, nor should Dallas want that.

New England has little at the WR position.

Behind Welker, who else is there?

Their system works for them because they don't have WRs.

That was last year. (why do people always reflect on the past?) Things do change, ya know?

You know as well as I do that players take time to develop. And, sense that senseless player, Marty B, was on the team Phillips did not get his opportunities. Now he will.

And, if they were looking at Kellen Davis...that's what teams do. They look for anything that can make them better.

If I were a media guy, I would assume I misheard and that Witten said "White Kind of Guy"

Maybe it's just me. But you seem to enjoy playing this cat & mouse game regarding Garrett. Questioning him, critiquing him, and then claiming that his supporters overreact and you can't say ANYTHING negative without them getting overly defensive. Then you claim you're supportive, hope he does well etc.

So here you are again, playing your same schtick. Whatever.

Just man up and take a clear position Ben. Not that difficult. Unless of course you're just trying to stir the pot. Or maybe have it both ways for however things turn out.
