Well, like Ware, they haven't won diddly piddly with him.

And anyone who thinks he hasn't declined is sorely mistaken, imo. The pick that went off his shoulder in the Philly game should be evidence enough of that.

They should have traded him two years ago.

so i'm to guess that witten is now the new bashing toy for the zone?

gotta have someone at all times, it seems.

Yep. Another HoFer that just doesn't cut it in the eyes of some.

He just isn't worth the money. Or he isn't clutch...or something. Or he's older than 30 which for some inexplicable reason makes him expendable.

TwilightZone nonsense is all.

As I said in another thread...
Hopefully he will retire after this season, has nothing to do with production or worth IMO. We'd all take 20 #82's on our team. Guy has done it all, except win championships and hopefully he'll realize it's time to hang the cleats after this year.

Yep...Romo, Carr and Witten, along with Claiborne seem to be the targets going forward.

Witten has years left in the NFL. Years.

Its not about bashing him, or saying that he hasn't been a great player. Its about the fact that if you got rid of Ware, Witten, and Miles two years ago, you're in much better shape now than you are.

And from a football standpoint, though he still brings in balls, I think the offense could be more explosive without him...

How does getting rid of Ware and Witten two years ago (when they were both in their prime) put us in better shape today? How many teams get rid of future Hall of Fame players in their primes?

What would've helped is not giving stupid extensions to players who didn't deserve them like Lee and Austin.

Hindsight is 20/20 they say.

I really don't care what we do with Witten. Just like Ware, Hatcher, Ellis, Gurode, Austin, Newman, Barber, Flozell, Colombo, Bradie James, Ratliff, Spencer. All the carnage left behind by Jerry Jones, and those I've listed, WHICH INCLUDES, Romo & Witten, have done NOTHING to help this team be anything other than mediocre. In my opinion, nobody is off limits.

Witten has years left in the NFL. Years.

But at what price?

I looked at his contract..... He has 2 yrs left here imo
Dead money of $8 mil 2014 & $5 mil 2015 after that it's becomes manageable. $5 million the next
2 years in base.
I don't see years left for him, maybe 2

Well let's see...Tony Gonzalez got traded in, what, 2009? The only guy who has played TE better than Witten in this generation got traded.

Aside from that, Drew Brees got released and Revis was traded, the former will definitely be in the HoF. Teams that suck get rid of their top players to build for the future all the time. You probably get, between Witten and Ware, 2 firsts and 2 seconds - or something like that - and a bunch of cap space. How wouldn't we be in better shape. Its not like we were on the cusp at the time.

Gonzalez was 33 years old, so he wasn't in his prime. Two years ago Witten was 29 years old. Different situations.

Drew Brees was not close to being considered a Hall of Famer at the time he was released by the Chargers. If he was playing at a HoF level while in San Diego they would not have let him go.

Darrell Revis was coming off of a major knee injury when he was traded, which changes circumstances. Plus he was constantly threatening to hold out.

I don't think Witten or Ware were considered HoF two years ago either...and not for nothing, but considering the last few years, Gonzo was clearly still in his prime.

The most certainly were considered HoFers two years ago. Witten was a 7 time pro-bowler and 2 time All-pro at the time. Ware was a 6 time pro-bowler and 4 time all-pro at the time. If not they were at least close. Brees wasn't close after his first 5 years in San Diego. He had 1 pro-bowl appearance during his time with the Chargers. The comparison isn't even close.

Gonzalez production was great the last few years, but you don't consider a 33 year old to be in his prime. If you do, then why would you get rid of Ware and Witten who were both much younger than 33 two years ago.
