In my opinion, Witten is one of the few that have lived up to their contract
I agree but you can't pay guys for past performance.. Going forward he won't be worth what he's getting..

Well, like Ware, they haven't won diddly piddly with him.
And anyone who thinks he hasn't declined is sorely mistaken, imo. The pick that went off his shoulder in the Philly game should be evidence enough of that.
They should have traded him two years ago.
so i'm to guess that witten is now the new bashing toy for the zone?
gotta have someone at all times, it seems.

As I said in another thread...
Hopefully he will retire after this season, has nothing to do with production or worth IMO. We'd all take 20 #82's on our team. Guy has done it all, except win championships and hopefully he'll realize it's time to hang the cleats after this year.
Its not about bashing him, or saying that he hasn't been a great player. Its about the fact that if you got rid of Ware, Witten, and Miles two years ago, you're in much better shape now than you are.so i'm to guess that witten is now the new bashing toy for the zone?

And from a football standpoint, though he still brings in balls, I think the offense could be more explosive without him...
Witten has years left in the NFL. Years.
Well let's see...Tony Gonzalez got traded in, what, 2009? The only guy who has played TE better than Witten in this generation got traded. How does getting rid of Ware and Witten two years ago (when they were both in their prime) put us in better shape today? How many teams get rid of future Hall of Fame players in their primes?
Hindsight is 20/20 they say.

Aside from that, Drew Brees got released and Revis was traded, the former will definitely be in the HoF. Teams that suck get rid of their top players to build for the future all the time. You probably get, between Witten and Ware, 2 firsts and 2 seconds - or something like that - and a bunch of cap space. How wouldn't we be in better shape. Its not like we were on the cusp at the time.
I don't think Witten or Ware were considered HoF two years ago either...and not for nothing, but considering the last few years, Gonzo was clearly still in his prime.Gonzalez was 33 years old, so he wasn't in his prime. Two years ago Witten was 29 years old. Different situations.
Drew Brees was not close to being considered a Hall of Famer at the time he was released by the Chargers. If he was playing at a HoF level while in San Diego they would not have let him go.
Darrell Revis was coming off of a major knee injury when he was traded, which changes circumstances. Plus he was constantly threatening to hold out.
