Witten/Marty B.

Does anyone think Jason might have been showing Marty B why he didn't see much of the field during his stay here? Jason gave him a clinic.

I doubt that Witten ever thinks about MartyB.

Exactly!

Once again: Witten is a professional football player with character and Marty B is a character who plays football for a profession. Witten does not worry about anything Marty B says or does.

Wow. From one of my fav posters.

I am going to attribute this to the effects of suffering along with the rest of us, the most heartbreaking Boyz loss ever.

Come on Risen. We have to somehow get past this and back to our normal selves.

Witten will be remembered forever in Cowboys Nation.

In about 10 years from now Cowboy Nation will be asking "Remember that TE with great promise from the Wade Phillips/early Jason Garrett era - anyone rmenber that guys name"?

Then there will be a pause, and to common response will be "Yeah, I think his name was Phillips something...wAIT...John...yup...John Phillips...yeah he turned out to be a pretty good TE".

At that very moment Martellus Bennett will be working some menial job complaining to others about how management is screwing him.

Then you have not been paying attention. Marty cares quite a bit about his stats.

Yes, he certainly does....

I don't think that's in Jason's nature. The dude just wants to win games and will do whatever it takes to acheive it.
But yes, it was a total clinic.

It does say alot that Justin Tuck came out after the game and spoke about how amazing Jason Witten is...and how he is for sure a Hall of Famer. He even mentioned all of his Pro Bowls and said it was clear for everyone to see how he has made it so many times.

It's not too often you get any of those Giants to compliment a Cowboy player. Tuck can rise above it more than some there though.

Does he? He seemed to be just fine his last two years here accepting his role as a blocker and putting good effort into being one of the best in the league at that role he was asked to perform.

Which is exactly why he signed an extension and stayed.............

..............

Doubt anyone had time to think about such a thing when the score is 0-23 and you're fighting to save face on national TV and win a game.

The way the Giants chose to defend Witten, he could've had 25 catches.

He left because he wanted a bigger role which is what every player in the NFL wants, what's wrong with that?

I could never blame Marty for leaving. He found the perfect situation and career opportunity.
He can be be childish when he bashes his his former employer and QB, but I think most is just him having fun.

He has already ticked off Eli several times with the occasional lazy or wrong route (sound familiar?), but I think Eli, Marty, and the entire team knows that he was a nice addition (and upgrade) for the Giants.

Absolutely amazing there are still Bennett defenders here. Of course, there are still Wade and Switzer defenders here as well, so I guess it isn't all that surprising after all. :(

Still waiting on an answer to this question..

Wade won two division titles in three years. Hard to complain about that. He's also the only coach to win a playoff game since Switzer.

There won't be an answer because to answer it differently would be akin to swallowing themselves whole. Every pro player wants to be the best, that is how they made pro.

Yeah, he also presided over 44-6 and 34-3 season ending embarrassments, a home playoff loss to the Giants, general locker room chaos and went along with whatever hare brained idea Jerry had (Roy Williams, PacMac Jones, etc.).

Bennett defender? I'm not even sure what that means.

He was a good TE and I guess I'm glad to see him finally get a chance to shine.

He may have been the BEST blocking TE in the entire league -- I think I read somewhere that MB was never charged with sack in his entire career with the Cowboys (can anybody confirm/disprove that?).

He is not superior receiver like Witten, however, with NY he looks at least average at it. Add up 'best blocking TE in the NFL' with 'decent receiver' and you have a pretty darn good TE.

Even now with NY I've heard MB say a lot of complimentary things about Witten. I think Witten has MB's respect.

I even suspect it may have been mutual. MB did a lot of the dirty work typically associated with blocking TEs and he did it very well and I'm sure Witten appreciated it.
