Made it out to the Witten football camp. He's answering questions from the kids. 'Toughest defense I ever faced? 2004 Baltimore Ravens.'

Jon Machota‏@jonmachota 2m
Jason Witten: 2004 Ravens are toughest defense Ive faced. Kids at camp yelled Seattle. JW: "U guys need to get off that Seahawks bandwagon."

it's sad how irrelevant we are to kids/teens these days. "america's team" can't live off the fans from the 70s and 90s forever. i worry about the future of this fanbase.

That's one thing the Cowboys never have to worry about is being irrelevant. Those 70 and 90s fan base pass those off to their offspring. That's how I became a fan. Even if we don't win a SB for another 20 years the cowboys will never become irrelevant. We have more fans now than ever before and haven't been to the big dance since 95.

Welcome to fans in general. Always been that way, always will be.

Besides, it's those parents at home, who probably post all over the internet that "romo sux we need a new quartbak" who are teaching their kids to jump on bandwagons.

Welcome to the new society.

I disagree with that statement. We had more fans in the late 90s or at the very least a larger percentage of all NFL fans. If you're a fan now, it's most likely b/c you were born and raised into it from a family member or you simply hopped on the bandwagon during the two decades of consistent success.. Rarely do you find a DC fan who became one on their own within the last 15 years. That's a problem. There is no long term viability in that. You have to have young fans to supplemental the generational stuff you're talking about.

Not necessarily. I don't agree with that. While it may possible be true that not a lot of DC fans have come in the last 15 years a lot of our fans stay loyal. We still have the largest fanbase in the nfl that is proven every year. And the people from the 90's aren't dying off anytime soon so that family fandom is gonna at least reach down 2 generations to the grandchildren. And I figure by that time we will have won at least 1 or 2 more SB.

If a CEO asks his CFO why his company's market share is steadily decreasing every year and the CFO answers "I don't know but at least we still have the largest market share in the industry" what do you think is going to happen to that CFO?

Yes, we are still the largest fanbase but you cannot ignore disturbing trends like the biggest decline in local TV ratings in the NFL and all the opposing fans at our games. I'm sure Jerry the businessman has taken notice of these things and realizes, although it might not show up on the bottom line in real time, it's not good for business down the line when his sons take over.

Just what I was thinking after reading a story about a Cowboy all time great hosting a football camp for kids.

Some of you guys need to get out of your own heads and just enjoy football for what it's supposed to be.

Yes, I know you worry about that. I can remember your concern over Houston taking Manziel with the 1st pick and grabbing some cowboys fans. I just wouldn't worry. The bandwagon fans have a way of weeding themselves out. This is a classy team to follow and most of our crowd is very classy too. Those late to the party usually leave early....right before the fun begins...and that is ok. Chillout and enjoy

Good call by Witten. All the fake Seattle fans will disappear when they go 10-6 in 2014 and probably lose their first playoff game. Happens every year.

Witten didn't think Dallas would draft Manziel bc they're invested in Romo. "He's an elite QB & l think he'll bring us a Championship here."
Witten said that he and Romo re-watch every play together and find ways to improve. Says they need to get better at play-action.

Jon Machota‏@jonmachota 5h
Witten would like Dallas to run the ball more. Didn't do it enough in 2013. "It wasn't b/c we didn't want to, we weren't efficient enough."
Jason Witten on Cowboys spending 3 of last 4 first-round picks on OL: "It's huge for us b/c for a long time we didn't have that solidified."

Carlos A. Mendez‏@calexmendez 5h
Witten said it's the first time he's watched the draft as a fan when Cowboys were picking at 16. Curious as anybody else because of Manziel.
Witten joking with reporters about rookie minicamp. 'Hear they're dropping like flies. What's going on over there?!'
