First off, we all know Witten was one of the greatest of all time so no disrespect intended. My question revolves around what everyone would settle for in a TE? A lot of people on this forum keep saying we don't have a good TE on the team. From what I have seen, I believe the TE's we have can do what Witten did the last few years which is like 5 or 600 yards. I mean, Swaim has looked pretty good to me in what little I have seen of him. Most were still content with Witten before he retired although he had slowed down a lot. I know everyone would like a Kelce or Gronk type but that usually requires a high pick. The point im trying to make is since Witten retired we seemed to have raised the bar above and way beyond what Witten would have done on this current team. I think one of the current TE's, maybe two, will step up and be the security blanket underneath that was Witten the last few years.

I agree. Witt had lost a step, always steady but a little slower. I think we will miss his leadership more than his play.

I'm pulling for Swaim. I was a big supporter on the old board and admit bias since he went to school and graduated same year as my sister so I watched his HS games. At the same time I like Rico and his potential but I need to see him go against the ones in practice and game time. Admittedly I don't know much.about the other options.

The hardest thing to replace is his sure hands and ability to basically be a guaranteed completion when thrown to....he had lost a step but none of the guys on the roster have his hands but will hopefully make up with separation

Here we go with the he lost a step BS. Let me know when any of these TE's beat wittens average yards per cat or his 70+ catch rate. These coaches will call the same 8 yard routes witt ran.

That is true....

Witt was like a grandpa out there. The ProBowl was embarrassing.

Having said that......he could start over this bunch!

I am not worried that we do not have a witten quality TE on the team

They will adjust.

He did lose a step maybe two even. You have to be blind not to have seen that.

I'm interested in seeing the difference between Witten's production over the past few years vs. the TE production this year compared to the salary difference.

It will be different. The TE's dont have to dominate for the offense to be good

I've wanted to replace Witten for years but not with this slop.

There's no doubt Witten was a great TE. He's probably 3rd or 4th best the team has had since the 80's, behind obviously Cosbie, Novacek and possibly Eric Bjornson.

Total dedication to his craft is what kept Witten on the field despite his diminishing game speed. Technique. Skill. Understanding of the game. These aspects of his game appear to have eclipsed mere athletic ability.

Nope. He was slower running routes, but catching and blocking he was still better than most.

I might be remembering wrong, but I thought he started getting more false starts and holding calls. I assumed it was from losing a step.
