The thread about the secrecy surrounding The Razorback has me wondering how you all would feel. Training Camp is an event. I think we can all agree with that. We enjoy it. We enjoy the practice reports. I think we all really enjoy the DMN blogs.

How would you feel if the next Head Coach insisted on privacy? No fans or media at any of the practices?

Would you consider that a competitive advantage that you could support?

Or would you think it was unnecessary and a waste of time?

I'm all for it as long as it results in wins during the regular (and hopefully) post season. Whatever works to get this team to win early and often.

I would not have an issue with it because practice is for players not fans. Fans do not need to get ready for the season or trying to make the club

I would defend the move 100% and encourage the NFL to allow teams to lock out the media as well. Outsiders just cant walk into my office at work and watch what we are doing. I think the same should apply here.

By nature, fans are insatiable, but fans do not play the game. Watching practices is only mandatory for second and third stringers when the starters are on the field. While some might feel like it would be an egregious injustice, closed practices would not mean the end of the world for us.

The only question would be what positive effect would it have on the team without the distraction of the fans being present? I say that it would be a positive one.

I'm for anything outside the box that brings results.

Commanders did this during George Allens tenure .Even had a patroling guard to look out for spies lurking around.Could have been a Pats fan filming practices, and picking up tells from the guards. Like if he had both hands on the ground it was going to be a run ,with one hand down a pass play.
So during cut selections open it up. With known roster go to closed practices. Just my opinion.

I would approve simply because then we wouldn't have to have loads and loads of threads, and posts, from armchair QBs telling everyone the season is over because everyone sucks so much because some reciever dropped 1 pass that day.

Wow. I'm surprised so many approve of private practices. The reason I look forward to training camp is because of all the coverage, media blogs, fan blogs, vids and pics. I realize that these things do not help the team win, but do they really hurt? The players seem to enjoy the attention. According to Star Mag, 100% of the players have signed autographs at least once on their way off the field. Some of them sign often - Miles Austin was mentioned.

If it is in fact a distraction, then obviously practices should be closed. But I've yet to hear a player complain about it. Besides, what would Mrs. Price do if camp was closed?

I voted that it's okay to have closed practices, but my preference is somewhere in between the all or none.
If it asked "would if some but not all of the practices were closed' i would be all in.

Whatever helps the team win is fine by me.

If it really helped, then by all means, close them down.

This is interesting to me as well. I'm a die hard fan and would be fine with it if it lead us to victory. However, the NFL is an entertainment venue. You can say practice is for the players and what not but the game in its entirety is for the fans. When it comes down to it players are entertainers so closed practices are a no go IMO.

I wouldn't have a problem with a new coach closing off training camp practices, however I don't think it's currently a big issue. While I appreciate training camp photos, if I were an owner/coach, I would make sure they were prevented. Heck, Jerry could possibly charge an electrical device locker fee during practice if fans/media wanted to take photos after practice was over.

NO WAY would jerry ever do this. keep fans and potential fans OUT? give up merchandising and beverage sales? tell all of san antonio to go mind its own business? are you NUTS?!

early in camp and during the season, practices are closed when they need to be. rest is open so they can keep the fans happy (and buying stuff).

I may be wrong but didn't Jimmy Johnson invite opposing coaches to watch his Cowboys practice? Something along the lines of this is what we're going to do and you won't be able to stop us? Maybe I'm wrong.

Jimmy like many invited college coaches but no we were not having opposing teams coaches out to practice. Personally I don't see anything wrong or bad about having fans at practice cheering the guys on but in the end camp is about 2 things getting players ready for the season and putting together a 53 man roster and has nothing to do with fans or the media

Ultimately, the NFL is the fans' game.

We, as fans, pay the players and coaches salaries and foot the bills for the stadiums. Without the fans, there would be no practices, no games, nothing.

Therefore, I think all NFL teams should have practices that are open to all fans. It's really not that much to give back, to allow fans to view the practices.

:hammer:

if coaches want to hide specific plays from the wandering eye, they just have to be a little creative about it

While I do enjoy reading regular updates from the media about Cowboys practices, I wouldn't be all that broken up about it if they were suddenly closed to the media and fans. Years ago, information from training camp wasn't as abundant as it is today, and yet I still enjoyed the season.

So as for the poll, neither option really applies to me. If they close access to camp, fine. If not, fine...
