If that's the case I'm not at all shocked his career went the way it did.

Once things weren't so easy any longer he mailed it in and got worse from there.

I highly doubt this. At the time, many in the organization loved Barron as well. Kuechly, Poe, Cox and Gilmore were all still on the board. Bobby Wagner didn't get taken till the 47th pick in the second round. Brockers was a little better at 14 but no way he was ranked higher then Poe or Cox in my view. I think Jerry is spinning BS right there.
