Other guys already being in the Hall notwithstanding, I think Rodney Harrison is also up for the Hall. Pretty sure 2 Safeties aren't going in at the same time. Are any of you putting Woodson in before Harrison?

Rodney's been eligible for over a decade so he won't be a fresh guy coming up.

For newly eligible safeties next year they'll add Eric Weddle who has a solid resume (all decade team, 6x pro bowl, first or 2nd team all pro 5x).

I don't think he gets in but he'll most likely be a finalist which to your original point makes Woody's chances harder when you have multiple guys at the same position all making semi/finalist

Na, I’d take Woody over Lynch….just as good against the run and better in coverage easily.

That's right. In my mind it's close between them. Did not realize Reed DOUBLED his INT"s though. That's crazy.

Reed is the best coverage safety I ever saw play, whereas Lott and Dawkins were the best against the run I ever saw.

Stats aside Woodson is a Hall of Famer.

Played strong safety in the base defense. Slot corner in the nickel. Linebacker in the dime. And still played on all special teams on a three time Super Bowl winning roster. Did all four at an all-pro level.

And on top of all this he was a class individual on a team that, in the 1990s, was severely lacking in the morals department.

Ed Reed is hands down the best safety I've ever seen.

Polamalu, I think is a bit overrated, because the entire defense was set up for him to make plays. The 2000s Steelers defenses were just stacked and had no weaknesses, so LeBeau allowed Polamalu to freelance and gamble like no other DB I can remember seeing. He was the star of LeBeau's show.

Reed benefitted from some excellent teams too, but it's not like the defense was engineered to funnel him pick sixes. He just made plays that didn't even seem possible.

Dawkins definitely had some good teams himself, but I wonder what would happen if you put Weapon X into Polamalu's role.

Are you old enough to remember Ronnie Lott? He's the best safety I ever saw, followed by Reed and Dawkins.

Good question on Weapon X. Jim Johnson was able to dial up those blitzes knowing he had a great solo tackling machine in Dawkins to cover up miscues. Dawk didn't get to freelance like Pola. I think Woodson would have been excellent in Johnson's system too.
