Worst Case Scenario?

OK, so let's assume for a minute:
~ We go 3-2 in December and close out the season a respectable 11-5 and NFCE champs and number 3 seed in the tournament.
~ Green Bay just edges Philly for the number 5 seed, making Philly the number 6 seed.

This very realistic scenario means Dallas not only closes the season against Philly (again) but we open the playoffs with a re-match against the hated Eagles the very next week.

Of all the ways for this to play out - I'm not liking this option very much.

Thoughts?

I'm all for an all-or-nothing game against Philly again. If we can't win it, we don't deserve to be there in the first place.

Its hard to beat a team twice in a season. Much less 3 times and much less twice on back to back weeks.

Wait...the 3 seed plays the 6 seed?

I'm not really one to get into playoff scenarios, but that just doesn't make much sense.

Shouldn't we play the the 4th seed?

3 plays 5, 4 plays 6. In the OP's scenario we would play Green Bay.

Do they? Or is he right, and because the top two seeds get first round byes, we become the default 1 seed for the opening round of the playoffs?

The 3rd seed plays the lowest seed in the wildcard (6th seed), while the 4th seed plays the 5th seed

I wouldn't be so quick to put Philly in the playoffs. Next week's Philly at Atlanta game is HUGE in terms of tiebreakers. Atlanta has a relatively easy schedule.

Worst case scenario is that we lose out and miss the playoffs.

Edit: Well, technically, the worst case scenario is losing out, Jerry Jones selling the team and the new owner moving them to LA.

This. Higher seed gets the advantage by playing the lowest seed.

The eagles get the Skins this weekend. I really don't see them losing this, but it has been a strange rivalry with the road team often winning.

Assuming the do beat the skins, a loss the following week to Atlanta would really hurt.

I do think finishing as the #3 seed is the most likely outcome for us.

11,12 or even 13 wins and I still see us in the #3 seed. Even a decent chance we could get it with 10 wins.

I've been watching the Cardinals with as much interest as any other team. If we do miss the bye, I'd rather have the 3 than the 4 seed. The 3 seed gives a a trip to the likely 2 seed (Minn), provided we win wildcard weekend.

Ok

Here is how it will play out.

New Orleans & Minnesota gets the 1 and 2 both go 4 and 2 from here out.

1. 14-2 New Orleans
2. 13-3 Minnesota
3. 12-4 Dallas (only lose is to new orleans). The game against eagles is for the Division.
4. 11-5 Arizona
5. 11-5 Eagles
6. 10-6 Packers

Greenbay at Dallas

Phili at Arizona

Dallas at Minnesota (Favre makes up for his lack of Interceptions this year as he is under constant pressure)

Phili at New Orleans

Dallas at New Orleans

I don't think Dallas will lose to Philly again for quite some time. One man's opinion.

Giants have their backs against the wall. They desparately need a victory over Dallas. Another loss, this one in their division, and they are outside of the playoff picture.

As someone already mentioned, Philly's game vs. Atl. in a couple weeks will be telling in their playoff chances. They also play the Giants the following week.

Dallas could very well lose their next two games. I mentioned the Giants (I still think Dallas wins). Their next game is against New Orleans. Sean Payton made Romo look bad in their last matchup.

I think Dallas beats SD, the 'skins and Philly to enter the playoffs. I also think Dallas makes it to the NFC Championship. After that, who knows?

Here's a scenario: Dallas beat Minnesota, Arizona upsets New Orleans...NFC Championship in the new "house"!!!

I think either the Saints are Vikings will fade here at the end. 2nd Place is still available if the Cowboys can finish 3-2. Also, someone is going to come out of nowhere and take the wild card...happens every year this time.

Playing Philly or Giants in the playoff would be the worst care scenario.

:laugh2: So much confusion?

Dang, this playoff drought has gone on so long that our fans have lost sight of seedings.

The highest seed plays the lowest. So 3rd plays 6th, and 4th plays 5th.

Ya because beating the Giants in 07 twice during the regular season really helped us out.

I will punch a wall if we have to play the Eagles back to back. That's the kind of **** that isn't fair.
