Beating the Skins in in "89" is probably the reason the 1989 Cowboys haven't been mentioned in this thread.

1989-93.....the splits are somewhat mind boggleing if you think about it.

The 1/15 Cowboys in 89......and winning in Washington...

The splits in 91 and 92.....probably the two best Cowboy teams ever assembled and could only manage a split. Those alone make strong statements to the intensity of the rivalry between the two teams.

The Commander / Cowboy games many have been classics.....it has been fun.

I think the 1991 Commanders team was the greatest team we've ever had. We were ranked 1st in pts scored, 2nd in pts allowed, 4th in total offense, and 3rd in total defense that year! Balanced and dominant on both sides of the ball, 14-2 and our only legitimate loss that season was against the Cowboys, when Jimmy Johnson had the "you don't hit a bear with a stick you have to club it" or something to that effect. (We lost the last game of the season to the Eagles at the Vet with our key players resting).

I remember an unexpected onside kick in that game and the Cowboys playing as if they had nothing to lose, even though the Commanders were 11-0 and Cowboys 6-5 with fading wild card chances going into that game. The Cowboys wound up winning 5 straight to make the playoffs, winning a wild card game, then we all know what happened from 1992-1995.

I truly believe the 1991 win the Cowboys had against the Commanders helped spark the dynasty...just as our 1990 playoff win against Buddy Ryans Eagles (after the infamous "body bag game" sparked the 1991 season.

YOU ARE CRAZY!!!!!!!! Think about the Mavs. During the 90s when they sucked and now when they are in the playoffs every year. I'd much rather have that than being a middling team. The Super Bowl, even losing, is much better than the Cardinals or the Lions.

Maybe better yes, but a much more painful experience as a fan. Losing in the playoffs hurts, but losing in the Super Bowl is much harder to swallow..and to have that happen 4 years in a row as a fan would be the ultimate heartbreak in my opinion.

Gotta throw the Saints in there. Their overall win percentage is less than 40%, and they have never made it past the Divisional game in the playoffs.

Oh, and their owner is prone to dancing a jig while carrying a silk parasol.

Sorry cant give ANY credit to Commanders for our Dynasty.
It was gonna happen regardless.

I would credit the win against Chicago (1st round) and the Loss to the Lions(2nd round) more than the win over the Commanders. That loss was a sign that we were close and could only lose at that point to a team(Lions) that happened to have our number for a little while there.

There have been many threads asking whose the best at this and that.

So lets try something a little different...:)

What NFL Team do you consider to be the most dreadful, horrendous, pathetic, worst squad ever in the history of the NFL.
The Dallas Cowboys in the JJ's first season. I don't know how we won the one game we won against Washington...it was a fluke.

That 1-15 squad was a total embarrassment....think of guys like Palmer as the starting RB and Cornell Burbage at WR.

I'm not sure any team, even a franchise team was as bad as that team, not to mention the fact that Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones were the freakin' ******** Beverley Hillbillies to the entire NFL and the nonfootball world. It was a very embarrassing year to be a Cowboys fan.

C'mon guy, take off those red and gold glasses. The skins had absolutely nothing to do with the success of the 90s Cowboys.

The heist we pulled on Minny, the talent up and down the roster, along w/solid coaching sparked that dynasty. No more no less...

oops... that did it. Thoughts of reconciliation null & void.:laugh2:

The 91-95 Cowboys were ready for bear........In fact those teams were so loaded they could hunt bear with a willow switch.

I didn't say we were the cause of it, but just saying in the 1991 season when you beat our 11-0 team, you were 6-5 coming off 2 straight losses. We were coming into that game with consecutive blowout wins over the Falcons (56-17) and Steelers (at Pitt, 41-14). We were HOT.

The win over us started you on a 5 game regular season win streak and a playoff win.

I'm just saying the win gave your team confidence that it was a real team and could beat anyone. Every great run requires a catalyst. I'm sure Johnson would have found a way regardless, but I do believe that beating us gave your team a whole new confidence about itself.

As a fan I feel we are always capable of winning. So I am guessing the players always feel that way too!

All you were was game #1 of 5 game winning streak +1 playoff win. Nothing more.

But if you feel like you helped the Dallas Cowboys surpass your 3 SB's wins then by all means FEEL GOOD ABOUT IT!

Hmm, I wonder who had the 5 game win streak plus wild card win this year? Maybe I can credit the win against the Cowboys as being the catalyst when we win our next Super Bowl within the next 2 years :)
