Would Bowman be a progress stopper?

How many safeties are on the roster? Maybe we plan on using extra CBs to make up for the lack of safeties on the roster.

Not sure he would be a progress stopper, because if he came here it would likely be as a backup and insurance. Though I think we could use more depth at the position, I rather deploy money at a position like free safety where we need more help.

oakland signed Derrick Johnson so no way Bowman is going back there and a SF reunion seems unlikely (although Fosters legal issues could change that). And we are still lacking for depth at LB. but would you still want him (assuming the price is right) now that we have LVE in the fold?

Yes please!

Stop who's progress? And if he didn't want to come here last year.....I don't see why he would now.

I mean he signed with Oakland before visiting us (his only other scheduled visit) I don’t really see it as “didn’t want to come here” so much as wanted to be there more.

I’m not a fan of LVE, but I believe young players NEED to play. Jaylon and Leighton need to play.

If Bowman was on the roster, the coaches would prefer that Vander Each win the job because he projects to have better range and be better in coverage.

Bowman does not want to be a part time player.

I think they might sign a remaining free agent LB that could function as a run stopper in the base defense; however, that player is unlikely to be Bowman.

Bring him in and let the best man win playing time.

Probably. Best signings right now would be a 1-tech (if they cared about the position) or some safety depth (who could start if one of ours doesn't pan out).
Agree.......a dominate 1-tech would protect LVE , maybe Collins can adapt, get healthy and fill the role, skills and quick tich are there....needs a nasty attitude.

I don't get the lack of depth comment.

We drafted two players and brought in a third as a FA. Assuming we carry six LBs, I'd say we have them (Lee, LVE, Smith, Wilson, Thomas, Covington).

Now, Bowman is probably better right now than several of those linebackers, but most of them are young and will contribute on special teams.

Lee (good but injuries), LVE (rookie never know what to expect), Smith (has he fully recovered).

You can only go so far with adding players. We've got three players who are supposed to be starting quality at the linebacker spots. We've got two others (Thomas and Wilson) who have starting experience. I'm all for contingency plans, but this is one position where I think we've got them.

I would have signed him before Vander Esch. No point now.

Just because he chose to stay fairly close to his home during his whole career after being released mid season doesn’t mean he didn’t want to go here.

Bowman? YES PLEASE. He's a nice stop gap until the young bucks get up to snuff.
^^^THIS! It’s crazy to think that he would be a progress stopper. For who??? He would be great at MLB, with LVE and Lee at OLB. Jaylon can start the season ahead of LVE, until he’s up to speed.

So if he wanted to stay close to home last season why wouldn't he want to stay close now?

I was beating th drum for Bowan, but that moment has passed. LVE era has begun. Think DAL needs to see how their team performs during minicamps first, but this FO is bout young players.
