The wild card here is Romo playing hardball with JJ.....

well, if the reports of Schaub's deal being Jerry's starting point for negotiations are true then Romo should play hardball. The last three games however put Romo way past Schaub's crap deal - Bulger is the comparison now -- with Romo likely beating that by a mill or two a year.

I'm pretty sure Romo has shown he is for real. Haters love to point out the Seattle game, or the whole "no one has enough tape on him" bull****. I think he's shown that he's over both.

Pay the guy.

I doubt Jerry will threaten with the franchise tag, but if it comes down to it. Romo will be franchised before he gets out.

It's not a threat...it's an option and a tool.

I don't see Jerry threatening to use the franchise tag, but if the contract negotiations didn't go as well as one would hope, he certainly would use it, and he certainly should in that circumstance.

You aren't going to go insane and pay Romo Superman money that threatens the rest of your team, but Jerry isn't going to lowball him either.

The franchise tag is used all the time...the only guys who usually get bent out of shape over it are older guys who don't want to see their final window of opportunity closing or guys who really want out of town regardless of money. The franchise tag would pay Tony an average salary of guys like Manning, Palmer, Brady, etc....I don't think he'd be that upset while the real contract got worked out.

That said, Romo is a young guy, and I think he'll make sure his agent is reasonable. He'll end up signing a "fair market" offer. I don't see him posturing for top QB dollar in the NFL, and I don't think he should get that on his first ever Starter's Salary.

I think Jerrah will wait untill after the Pats game to make his decision. that will let him see how Romo does against the so called genius coach. If Tony lights up the Pats, Jerrah will just about break his hand getting his wallet out.
If the Pats shut him down, Jerrah can then wait for the rest of the season.

After a conversation with Romo, Mosley said this in his column..."Romo has a tremendous amount of loyalty to the Cowboys because they thought enough of his upside to keep extending his contract. But loyalty has its boundaries. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has indicated that Romo's not going anywhere, but it would behoove him to take care of Romo sooner rather than later

Mosely is such a moron.

Romo = Good Starting QB = Premium Salary and extremely high demand.

Dallas will not "save money" by signing him early. He would almost definitely want to re-do his contract if he's getting paid too low. Why? Because he has a great amount of leverage since his skill at the position he plays has such a high demand. Why writers and analysts cannot grasp this simple concept is beyond me.

I really do not know. Tony Romo sounds pretty sincere and says all the right things. However, he already proved that he can win games for us last season (pro-bowl, 95 rating) and we did not extend his contract in Summer. NFL is violent and he is one hit away from going back his life of 5 years ago, without any compensation. It must be a little bit disappointing for him not at least getting some money in Summer.

Yeah, we can tag him. However, if he play like this for the rest of the season, some teams will be willing to give up two No.1s for him and give him an insane contract that we just can not match.

Normally you do not let your young star QB become FA. We did and let see what we will do.

Just a hunch, but I think Romo has a relationship to Jerry Jones similiar to the one Aikman had with Jones. Getting a contract done or redone only takes a few minutes and everyone is cool.

I agree. I don't think Romo is greedy like some players. As long as Jerry gives him a contract that is close to what he deserves, he will sign it. If there is one thing I know that Jerry does, it is being fair to the Cowboys star players. (sometimes to the point of overpaying or giving a very long term contract ie Emmitt Smith's and Troy Aikman's final contracts at full super star prices)

I don't get what the rush is still.

If you feel he's a star then why does he need a contract now?

Is he gonna stop playing till you pay him?

JJ and Romo are focused on the season and the Rams. The deal gets done when it gets done.

I just read a note in thie week's SI that said to look for the Cowboys to open negotiations with Romo very soon. The note said that a source in the Cowboys organization said that the Cowboys were waiting until after the first month of the season to see how Romo responded this year.

We posters can begin to think whatever we want, but without links with direct quotes to direct answers, it's just a lot of hot air...
